Half-term is almost here, and so are my October animation workshops.

Three days. Three ways to make a film. All at my studio in Earlsdon, Coventry.

Tuesday 27th October: Fantastic Filmmakers Cutout - 10.00 to 16.00

A full day of cutout stop motion animation. Filmmakers design paper characters, build their world and animate it scene by scene.

Wednesday 28th October: Micro Movie Makers Plasticine - morning and afternoon sessions

A plasticine animation taster. Sculpt a character and bring it to life frame by frame. Perfect for first-timers!

Thursday 29th October: Fantastic Filmmakers LEGO - 10.00 to 16.00

A full day of LEGO stop motion. Build the set, animate the minifigures, take home a finished film.

All workshops are for ages 7+. Small groups, max 8 children, so everyone gets proper hands-on time. No experience needed.

What happens when takes over the Let’s Animate studio?

I invited Mellow Park to lead a character design workshop for children at my Let’s Animate studio in Earlsdon, Coventry, knowing my students would love it. And boy, did they!

They started by learning silhouettes using simple coloured blobs. Then they turned those shapes into their very own characters. Next, they designed a character from scratch, sketching, inking and perfecting every detail. Character design is where every animation starts, and these kids were brilliant at it.

The result? Their characters framed in their very own Mellow Park x Let’s Animate posters.

This is why I love what I do. I get to collab with awesome artists and bring creativity to young people. When I met Marc, I knew he’d be awesome at running a workshop and he absolutely smashed it. Not everyone can work with children, but Marc was kind, encouraging and fantastic fun!

We’ve had such great feedback and plan to run more Mellow Park x Let’s Animate collabs in the future, so watch this space.

I’d love to collab with more artists across Coventry and the Midlands too. If you’d be up for running a workshop at the studio, give me a shout!

Every workshop I run, there’s a moment. The one where a child realises they just made something move with their own hands.

Doesn’t matter the age, doesn’t matter the setting, that reaction never gets old for me. Fifteen years in and I still love watching this happen.
