Another 10 out of 10 review, Wow!
Album review.
Artist : Fluance
Title : Lunacy
Label : Marquee Records (25/02/20)
Such is the state of the music industry right now that on the day of release "Lunacy" had already been pirated and was available on-line with unreleased bonus tracks ! Can you imagine the frustration felt by the artists ? This had been a work in progress for a number of years as I know ! I recall hearing early demos and work in progress over 5 years ago when I visited Philip Lane at his Bee House Studios in Llanfyllin.
All that aside, Fluance are a prog-rock band and "Lunacy" is a triumph of Floyd-esque melodies and soundscapes with swirling keyboards, soaring guitar lines and rolling drums - all with Philip's vocals which are spookily reminiscent of Dave Gilmour. That's not to say that Fluance are a Pink Floyd tribute - far from it. These guys pack an original and powerful punch of their own and this album can stand on it's own two feet without any unecessary comparisons to other groups. But if you are a Floyd fan you'll love this from start to finish !
"It Doesn't Matter" is probably the best new prog-rock song in many a year and has a great commercial hook which should propel Fluance into the hearts of many a rock music fan.
"Lunacy" may not be for everyone but we love it and for fans of Pink Floyd, Yes, Caravan, Greenslade and, dare we say it, early Genesis you will too !
Now Phil, how did you get Duncan Mackay to play on this ?
tracks : Lunacy / Deprivation / It Doesn't Matter / Hanging Out / Just Call / Greatest Friend / Then You Remember / You Are Not Alone / Try Not To Drown.
