I know I'm a bit behind, but I'm excited to finally share these photos from the nationals in April! 🥳

Ruth Whitmore and Autopilot looked absolutely phenomenal - I'm still in awe. LOOK AT THIS BOY GO! 😍

I clipped this handsome guy around three weeks before the competition, and he was an absolute pleasure to work with (making sure we blended around the nose to leave whiskers and left the insides of his ears as natural as possible)👌🏻🫡

I thought it would be interesting to work out what I’ve spent on professional clipping and wow!

People say clipping is expensive but I don’t think we charge enough 😂

Clippers/batteries/blades etc purchased are obviously over the course of the past 7/8 years and the other costs are annual.

Yes someone with one set of clippers and 2 sets of blades might be able to do it a heck of a lot cheaper, but to be a professional people trust you need to invest and perfect your craft.

This isn’t to say you have to spend this much to start out, but annually to cover your (or at least my) costs this is absolutely accurate - as is the cost of machines and blades for any professional clipper doing this full time.

Clip Nero’s ears with me 😍

When I first started clipping this guy he wasn’t keen about having his ears clipped! Fast forward a few seasons and he’s an absolute dream! A little patience goes a long way with these sensitive horses 🫶🏻

Check out Poppy's incredible progress! 🥹🫶🏻 She's gone from needing sedation for leg clipping to being super calm and relaxed!

As I start my first full week of clipping, here are some important reminders:

• Book your appointments well in advance, as October is already nearly fully booked!📔
• Please make sure your horses are clean and dry before our appointment. A hot towel or some pre-clipping grooming is really helpful! Dirty horses means a less flawless clip!🛁
• Remember that I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. 🫶🏻
• Payment is due at the time of service (cash or bank transfer is great). 💸

As a professional clipper leaving lines or a not so perfect finish is my biggest bugbear however it can be prevented with a clean coat. So get scrubbing guys 🧼 ☺️👌🏻

Wash the horse 🧼🧼

Every winter we promote washing horses prior to clipping, this winter is no different 🛁🫧

WHY❓

📍Your horses comfort- prevents hair snagging and pulling
📍Your clipper- reduces strain on your machine
📍Your blades- helps longevity of blade sharpness
📍Finish- ultimately you will achieve a much better finish by washing prior to clipping

❌Avoid❌

➡️using any pre clip oils or coat sprays prior to
clipping these can coat your blades and cause them to generate heat.

There is no substitute for a good bath and or groom

*if you are in a situation where bathing and stabling prior to clipping isn't an option hot cloth every day in the run up to clipping and keep the horse adequately rugged so they are dry and clean- a thorough groom taking a full hour that works up a sweat then the day of clipping will suffice*
