Jacksons plein air day at Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset today. It was great to see so many artists creating some amazing paintings. It’s a beautiful venue with plenty of sculptures framed by trees creating different views across the lakes. I managed a couple of watercolours but there were artists using oils, pastels, acrylics and graphite.

A slightly damp visit to the Scott Arms in Kingston with Poole & East Dorset Art Society this morning. There is a lovely view of Corfe Castle from the garden and the staff are kind enough to allow us to paint from there. Unfortunately the view kept disappearing in low cloud so apart from a very quick watercolour sketch I decided to paint the pub instead.

We spent a lovely morning at Kimmeridge with Broadstone Art Society yesterday. The perfect weather inspired some wonderful art from our members. I managed a watercolour of this familiar view featuring Clavell Tower and the fisherman’s huts which now feature a wild seas centre.

A verywet wet visit to Fordingbridge steam fair today with David Marshall. I felt sorry for the traders as there were not many visitors so they must have suffered financially. I tried a couple of sketches and a watercolour in the few dry spells but it started raining again every time I started! The watercolour is the Berkshire Tariff Queen. Owned by M Farwell & sons, Stourpaine.

Painting on Stoborough Heath, Wareham this morning with artist Julie Herring and Poole & East Dorset Art Society
The heath looked wonderful now the heather is starting to flower, a drop of overnight rain helped to freshen everything up and some heavy clouds made the sky more interesting.

A good day in London yesterday. I attended a two hour watercolour course at the Royal Watercolour Society in the morning and had a guided tour of the Imperial war museum in the afternoon.
Thank you to Sophie Knight at the RWS for an inspirational couple of hours where I managed two paintings. A study or a Turner seascape and a London park from one of Sophie’s photos.
Thank you to Nevil at the Imperial War museum for looking after me and being such an interesting guide and to Ana for inviting me along.
I only managed one sketch in the museum of the press Land Rover and one earlier in the day in Trafalgar Square.

Our plein air day was at the Boilerhouse Gallery with Poole & East Dorset Art Society
I had the grandchildren so we visited Corfe Castle first. The boys had fun doing archery and playing with a small siege catapult while I did a quick sketch of the castle. We got to the Boilerhouse Gallery in the end and caught up with two of our artists.

Took the boys to Knoll beach, Studland this morning. They had a great time swimming and playing in the sand while I did some sketches. We had a little rain which added some texture to one of my paintings but did little else. We finished the day with an ice cream in Swanage.

Interesting coach trip to the Royal Academy summer exhibition yesterday. The exhibition has a huge variety of styles and media from the sublime to the ridiculous but which piece is sublime and which ridiculous is a personal choice!
I managed to sketch on the coach, in the RA and while eating my lunch in Leicester Square. I also popped into the National Portrait Gallery to re visit some favourites.

Had a wonderful time on the beach this morning as a guest of Corfe Mullen art society. We had access to a beach hut near Flaghead chine so we were able to paint the view across to the purbecks, swim, paddle and drink tea.
I painted a watercolour then used a toned sketchbook to capture passers by.
