I spent the morning sketching at the Wimborne Minster Folk Festival several Morris sides were dancing in the square including Sarum Morris. There was a side from Herefordshire but I forget their name! Trying to capture them in a five minute dance is a bit challenging so I try to capture the spirit of the dance.

I always enjoy sketching at Corfe Mullen Carnival, starting with the parade and then enjoying the crowds at the show ground. I’m afraid I didn’t get the names of the dance groups as I only had a minute or two to sketch them as they danced past but I think one was the Wessex Majorettes. The car club is the Funky Monkey and we all love the tea tent for the great cakes!

Out with the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset today for the presentation of the kings Award for voluntary service to Councillor Hannah Hobbs-Chell for her role in co founding the Ferndown Community Support CIC and founding the food bank. The centre is run by an amazing group of volunteers who collect unwanted food from the supermarkets and recycle it through the food bank.

Broadstone Art Society plein air day at Bramblebush Bay, Studland. We could see rain clouds to the north but managed to do some painting before the rain arrived.

Jackson’s plein air day at National trust’s Killerton House in Devon attracted 150 artists yesterday. Luckily the rain held off although it was windy and cold at times. However it was a very enjoyable experience so thank you to Lisa from Jackson’s for organising

While the boys were at a dance workshop yesterday I took the opportunity to do some quick watercolour sketches. Thanks to Kate at the O’Leary dance school for allowing me access.

This time last week it was cold enough to wear a jumper and a jacket while I painted this scene in Norfolk. What a difference a week can make!

Driving back home to Dorset from Norfolk was a little challenging yesterday. The combination of a bank holiday weekend, school holidays and hot weather meant the roads were exceptionally busy. Yes I appreciate we were part of the problem! The M25 was slow and tedious so I did a quick sketch from the passenger seat as we took it in turns to drive.

Visit toMoreton in north Norfolk this afternoon to do a little painting. There were Brent geese’s, spoonbills, redshank, oyster catchers and a brief appearance by a marsh harrier. I forgot to add them to the picture!

AIR 102.7 fm community radio in Weymouth has a brand new purpose built studio in Weymouth. I was privileged to attend the official opening with the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, the mayor of Weymouth Cllr Caroline Nickinson and mp Lloyd Hatton. It was great to meet the CEO Jamie Lyons’s and some of his team including station manager Steve Mullins, reporter Emma Nicholson and presenter Dave Gouldin.
