"In-Between States"

This abstract expressionism painting, delves into the profound and tumultuous journey of individuals grappling with chronic pain. The artwork portrays a figure that is half human, half praying mantis, caught in the throes of metamorphosis. This transformation, hovering between beauty and terror, symbolizes the multifaceted experience of enduring chronic pain and the subsequent coping mechanisms.

The painting's chaotic styles evoke the internal and external upheavals faced by those in chronic pain. It captures the essence of living in a perpetual state of flux, where the body, mind, and family environment are in continuous adaptation. The human-mantis hybrid reflects the duality of transformation, questioning whether the changes lead to something beautiful or something dreadful.

"In-Between States" invites viewers to ponder the complex and often contradictory nature of transformation through pain, exploring themes of resilience, vulnerability, and the relentless pursuit of equilibrium amidst uncertainty.

The second in a series of abstracts created using the spare masking tape used around the borders of my paintings. Being a spare can be either a blessing or a curse. It is all about perspective and up to you how you choose to use it. As a strength and blossom or a weakness and become a victim.

Being spare can be blessing or a curse. It is all about perspective and it is up to you, how you choose to use it as a strength.

A simple abstract piece, utilising an offcut of cardboard and the scrap masking tape from my art pieces, mixed together. This way the lovely colour combinations are not lost.
