PAINT YOUR PARTNER

Join us at The Quill & Quiver for an evening of questionable artistic talent, uncontrollable laughter and portraits that may or may not permanently damage your relationship.

Bring your partner, your best friend, your sibling, your mum, your work wife, your favourite human, whoever you're willing to sit opposite and attempt to immortalise on canvas.

You'll each be given everything you need to create your masterpiece before the big reveal at the end.

And absolutely NO artistic ability is required.

🎨 All painting materials provided

🖼️ Your masterpiece is yours to take home

🫖 Refreshments available to purchase throughout the evening

😂 Public humiliation almost certainly included

Come as a pair, grab a drink, pick up a paintbrush and prepare to discover exactly how your favourite person sees you.

Friendships and relationships should hopefully remain intact. The Quill & Quiver accepts no responsibility for arguments resulting from artistic interpretation. 🎨❤️

The evening book club met this week to discuss The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap, as you can see from this positively glowing review it’s gone down a extremely well! If your feeling left out, join us for the September meeting on Monday 28th September at 6:45pm were we will be discussing Hekate by Nikita Gill.

-

The Resurrectionists was praised from beginning to end, from Dunlap’s beautifully immersive writing style, use of Victorian English and lesser-used vocabulary, to the way she weaves fiction so seamlessly through the very real and very dark history of Burke and Hare and the resurrectionists of 19th-century Edinburgh.

The characters were an enormous highlight. Members became so attached to our protagonist and his colleague that several simply didn’t want the book to end. The relationships throughout were incredibly well written, but it was the first-person POV that really pulled everyone in. His thoughts and feelings are written with such care and intention that, rather than simply being told how he feels, you feel it with him. At times, it was as though the emotions belonged to the reader.

The history behind the story prompted just as much conversation.

We were astounded by the intricacies of the underground resurrectionist trade: how organised it became, the demand that existed for bodies, and how essential access to human cadavers was to the advancement of medical science and physicians’ understanding of anatomy.

It created such an uncomfortable moral contradiction to discuss. The exhumation of somebody’s loved one is a horrifying violation, and yet the knowledge gained through anatomical study went on to help save and prolong countless human lives.

Macabre, fascinating, emotional and beautifully written historical dark academia.

✨ September at The Quill & Quiver is all about stories coming to life. ✨

Join us for two unique evening events celebrating storytelling in all its forms. On Saturday 12th September (7pm-10pm), our bookshop becomes a stage as performers from The Stamford Shakespeare Company, Stamford Shoestring Theatre Company, and Corby Amateur Theatrical Society bring theatre, live performance and unforgettable characters.

Then on Friday 25th September (7pm-10pm), we're reviving Adult Show & Tell. Bring along a treasured object, curious find, family heirloom, prized possession or anything with a story worth sharing. (No pets, please)

Whether stories are told on stage or through the things we hold onto, we'd love you to be part of the conversation. 📚🎭✨

🍂 Autumn Equinox Sound Bath 🍂

As summer fades and autumn begins, take some time to pause, breathe and welcome the changing season with a peaceful Sound Bath at The Quill & Quiver.

Join us for an evening of soothing sounds, gentle vibrations and deep relaxation, surrounded by the cosy atmosphere of the bookshop.

Monday 21st September
6:30pm–8:00pm

Ticket includes a cup of tea (any flavour)

Please arrive 10 minutes before the session so you have plenty of time to settle in and get comfortable. Unfortunately, latecomers cannot be admitted once the session has started, as we want to keep the space peaceful and minimise disruption.

There’s no need to bring a yoga mat — we’ll have chunky floor mattresses ready for you to get cosy.

A few things to know:

✨ Space is limited so only a few tickets are available and keeps the session intimate and cosy.

✨ If you’re unable to lie down comfortably, please let us know — we can accommodate you in a chair, and you’ll receive the sound healing experience just the same as everyone else.

✨ A Sound Bath consent form will be provided on arrival. You’ll be asked to sign to confirm that you have read and understood it.

✨ Essential oil sprays and/or incense may be used during the session, so please let us know beforehand if you have any allergies or sensitivities.

✨ Most importantly, there’s nothing you need to do. Get comfortable, close your eyes if you wish, breathe deeply and let the sounds do the work.

✨ We look forward to holding space for you as we welcome the arrival of autumn.

✨ Please avoid consuming alcohol before the session.

I honestly don’t quite know how to put yesterday into words ❤️

Thank you so much to every single person who wished me a happy birthday, left a message, popped into the shop, brought me a card, flowers or a gift. I currently have more flowers than I own vases for 😂 and I was completely blown away by how much love I received.

I cried (again) at all the messages and reading just how much The Quill & Quiver means to all of you.

When you pour so much of yourself into building something, you spend most of your time thinking about what needs doing next. The next event. The next order. The next idea. The next problem to solve. You don't always get the chance to stop and see what it's doing in the present when constantly planning for the future.

Thank you for yesterday. Thank you for believing in this place. And thank you for reminding me, on the days when I'm exhausted and running on fumes, exactly why we do it. And thank you to my wonderful team for my spa afternoon. I promise not to take my laptop 😂

I feel incredibly lucky ❣️
