Coolham Live Music Club

Coolham Live Music Club Top class gigs an intimate venue I have made a big effort to bring some of the finest musicians from around the globe to Coolham.

All these gigs are non profit making and hopefully will help keep live music alive. You'll not find another venue like Coolham to see world class musicians, it's like having a gig in your front room. Come and have a great night out with awesome music . My thanks the great audiences and to the finest musicians from all over the world for coming to a little hall in a small West Sussex village. See you at a gig soon - Graeme :)

A great interview with a Coolham Live Music Club fave, Keith Xander, frontman of the amazing Xander and the Peace Pirates. Booked again for later this years so keep a look out for the event here.

We were members when I was a child and attended events. I even played guitar at a couple. Back then Jeremy Beadle was a Patron of Reach, he was mocking my mum and said, “Oh no, not a proud mum!” 🤣 I then played to a backing track on a crappy keyboard and played lead guitar over the top, I was...

Although we had already sold out Kaz Hawkins gig at the Stables in June, other venues on her UK tour hadn't managed to get enough bookings to make their events viable. As a consequence, Kaz, who is a French resident these days, has had to take the difficult decision to cancel her tour completely. At such short notice we have been unable to book a replacement act that met the Coolham quality criteria, so our next event will be in July and details will be announced shortly..
Sadly, this is not an isolated situation with many venues now struggling to get enough early ticket sales or reservations and a worrying number closing their doors permanently. The financial impact on grassroot gigging musicians is such that many are reconsidering whether they should continue performing.

Fortunately, we have built up a loyal group of supporters and audience members so are currently bucking the trend but it's extremely hard out there at the moment and those of us who love live music must keep buying tickets early and purchasing merchandise at the gigs we attend or we will loose the opportunity to see quality grassroots music locally and at a sensible price.

Let's keep supporting live music and keeping it local.

Use it or loose it.

Last night saw Coolham full for another evening of top class live music provided by two contrasting acts, both guitar led and both with their roots in the blues.

Opening the evening was a duo comprising Neil Grove on guitar and Chris Sentance-Geraghty on harmonica, with both taking a turn at lead vocals. From the opening number it was clear that they are both extremely competent players with a knowledge of and passion for the blues of the 40’s,50’s and 60’s.

Their 60 min set included a mix of covers of material from some of the legendary blues musicians of that time along with that of some more obscure but excellent players, plus a good smattering of Neil’s original songs.

Throughout, the guitar picking and harp blowing was superb and the vocals strong. The audience loved what they delivered and a standing ovation said it all.

After the break, the volume and tempo increased as Mat Day and his band launched into their high energy instrumental take on ‘Eleanor Rigby', giving all 4 band members an opportunity to show their prowess. Their 90 min set went on to include a selection of Mat’s own well crafted compositions, interspersed with some well chosen covers.

Mat’s virtuosity on guitar was well known to those of us that had seen him previously but this time he added his lead vocals and band management skills to the mix and what we saw was a fully formed performer who is developing his own career and certainly has the potential to become a stand out live performer.

The charity collection produced a further £275 to bring the club’s total donations to Chestnut Tree House to £22, 929. As always, thanks to our audience for coming out and supporting live music and for their generosity in supporting the Childrens Hospice. Also to Ian and Mark for getting the sound and stage lighting spot on yet again.
