Craftucation

Craftucation Craftucation - the home of online art and craft courses. Craftucation is a new online course platform from the artisans behind Ewe Felty Thing.

Having been teaching courses in-person at Ewe Felty Thing in Llandudno using the name Craftucation for the last couple of years, we are now relaunching as a new online course platform! Ewe Felty Thing is a boutique craft shop created by Nikki Small and run with the help of Wendy Collins and Ann-Marie Warren. We’ve been open for over two years and even before that, we were teaching courses and clas

ses in a variety of crafts. From felting, crochet and knitting, to book sculpture and even a weekly art class for home-educated kids. We have covered a wide range of topics and helped many different students explore their creativity. Craftucation specialises in high quality, in-depth craft courses for beginner, intermediate and advanced artisans. We are in the process of developing our new platform, which we hope will be a collaborative creative community. We have lots of really exciting plans about how it’s all going to work. We want it to be driven by you – our tutors and students. For tutors, we want this to be a great platform to deliver your courses through, where you get feedback and interaction with your students, and get a decent wage for all the work you put in. For students, we want this to be a friendly and supportive platform where you can learn new skills as well as expanding on your existing ones, where you can not only study, but interact with others, share your triumphs and feel supported through your attempts. We really believe in the wonderful benefits that art and craft can have, including on your mental health. We love being a part of this inclusive and supportive industry, and we can’t wait to build a new and exciting part of it with you. If you’d like to follow our journey, then please check out our blog or our social media. If you’d be interested in joining us as a tutor or as a student, then please consider signing up to our mailing list to get all the details of how, when and where the platform will be available.

It's Thoughtful Thursday!
What is the next technique or craft you'd like to learn?

Nikki here. I'll start!
My next 'must learn' technique is spinning art yarns. I really love some of the amazing textures you can create, and I'd love to incorporate them into my weaving!

What about you? Are you desperate to master macrame? Is resin pour to be added to your repertoire?

Today we're all about frogging...There has been a lot happening this weekend, hence the frog!

Frogging, in most fibre arts, is that whole process of ripping everything you did right back to the start (or a good way back!)

It's not the same as tinking, which is a more delicate process of undoing stitches, it's a bit more passionate than that!

Although having said that, frogging colour work can be a bit of pain - we know - we've been there 😮

Hands up who has something (or several somethings) that they know they should frog, but they've not quite brought themselves to do it just yet?

They're an Alitzah Grant Designs pattern which was knitted by the lovely Jane from Finknottle's Parlour

They are absolutely perfect for a day like today where the sky is blue (or at least it is for us) and the sun is shining...

What sock patterns do you love?

We're not sure about WIP Wednesday this week - perhaps it should be another woolly Wednesday?

It feels like the weather has gone cold again after a mild New Year. So we think that's a perfect excuse to get your latest woolly project out!!

Our Story

Craftucation was created by Nikki Small in Llandudno in February 2017 as a weekly class for home educated children. The aim was to learn about a variety of topics through crafts. The classes were a huge success, as was Ewe Felty Thing, the independent craft shop which grew out of it. We started teaching lots of art and craft courses through the shop to help budding artisans learn new skills or expand on existing ones. We loved sharing techniques in felting, knitting, spinning and crochet.

When the pandemic struck in 2020 and we were no longer able to provide courses in-person, we started thinking about how we could move them online. We realised that many tutors were in the same position and that so many artists and crafters were wanting to learn skills but didn’t have access to anyone to teach them.

Nikki decided that what was needed was a brand new platform designed to connect tutors and students. Where quality, in-depth courses are standard, and students have access not only to tutor support but also to peer support and to join a crafting community. All the things that we usually enjoy so much during in-person courses and make the creative world such a wonderful place to be.

We are working our way through this journey and we’re really excited to take you along with us as we work to create our new collaborative crafting community.
