Rough & Ready Theatre might just be Devon’s smallest theatre, with about 30 seats each show!
Tucked away in the atmospheric Cellar Bar at the Colcombe Castle Hotel in Colyton, it’s all about bringing the very best of Devon’s professional – and sometimes non-professional – theatre right into the heart of the community. Forget elaborate sets or towering lighting rigs; it’s just bold, brilliant performers up close, where every breath, laugh, and moment lands with real impact.
Expect a mix of shows: some hilarious, some moving, some that leave you thinking long after the final line. Every night promises something different, but all of them promise a cracking evening out in one of the most atmospheric spaces in town. The bar will be open before and after each performance where you’ll have the chance to chat with the performers after their show.
We will be hosting one show each month, with tickets available from the Colcombe’s coffee lounge. They’re likely to sell quickly, so keep an eye out for the first show announcement (by following this page) and grab yours while you can.
A professional theatre venue in Colyton — who’d have thought? As Shakespeare almost said: “All the world’s a stage… but the Cellar Bar in Colyton is the main one — sans set, sans lights, just great shows!” Or something like that...
