Last night's Voicebox was extra amazing. We had a new reader (12 years running), a beautiful blend of our regular open mic gang and witnessed our incredible headliner bringing his magic to the mic. We also had the fortune of Tim, the one who started Voicebox many moons ago, back with his words. Holly did a wonderful job of hosting last night, who took some inspiration from our regular legendary host Tash, who took some inspiration from our OG Tim. It felt a little like the spiderman pointing meme. It was also a really beautiful moment of seeing how legacies are passed down and shaped with a unique twist in the community🥹 Diolch everyone for coming last night, we'll see you at the next one

Happy International Women’s Day from Voicebox Wxm 💜

Over the last 12 years we’ve been privileged to host incredible, powerful, vulnerable and bold women across our stages. As an arts organisation, our board is predominantly female, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and of the vision and platform we continue to bring to the spoken word scene from our corner of North Wales.

A special shout-out to the Voicebox Collective Showcase at FOCUS Wales this year, featuring a line-up where over 80% of the poets are women:
Holly Thorpe Tamia Leigh Poetry, Natasha Borton Lisa O’Hare Poetry and Sophia McIntyre!

Today we celebrate every woman who has supported Voicebox over the past 12 years and all those who will continue to shape what comes next.

Happy World Book Day!

Here are the favourite reads of some of the Voicebox gang:

Tam:
My favourite book is Grief is the thing with feathers by Max Porter. Someone gifted it to me after I lost my best friend and immediately after I ended up rescuing a baby crow (the book is partially told by a crow, who is 'grief') it was super weird and special. It's an ugly and honest story, surprisingly funny in parts.

Ben:
Minority Rule by Ash Sarkar - amazingly astute and penetrating, and funny, look out how confected and fu**ed up all the machinations are that have lead to the right gaining dominance and the left tearing itself apart.

Holly:
One of my favourite books is Lanny by Max Porter. I love the Green Man figure of Dead Papa Toothwort, the way that he’s so powerful while being moulded by the people of the village (and their rubbish) shows a lot of interesting and complicated tensions, and the way Porter experimentally shows his ‘eavesdropping’ of the village’s conversations with winding, wobbly text is super effective and also just a really fun way to tell a story — made me want to experiment more in my own work.

❤️What are some of your current favourite reads?

✨ Thank you, NEW Sinfonia and Wrecsam2029 ✨

Some nights feel bigger than a concert, they feel like coming home.
Last night was one of those nights.

A bold, joyful celebration of our city’s sound, voices, and creative spirit.

Sharing the iconic St. Giles with the incredible Declan Swans, Mooi, Baby Brave and legend Andy Hickie , all re-imagined alongside NEW Sinfonia’s orchestral power, was genuinely special.

We were so proud to bring spoken word into the mix with Natasha Borton our Artistic Director, and Holly Thorpe, who was truly outstanding.

Huge thanks to NEW Sinfonia and the wonderful people like Orb, St. Giles volunteers and everyone who bring these events to life and make space for our city’s stories and sound to shine.

A night rooted in Wrecsam, filled with heart, and pointing boldly toward Wrecsam 2029. 💛✨

We'll keep sharing the amazing pictures and videos coming from locoal artists ❤️🫶
