ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT... Celebrating Eva! 💥

📍 Colne Little Theatre
🗓️ Sunday 30th August
⏰ 20:45 - 21:45

A moving celebration of one of the most beloved voices of the last century, featuring classic hits from the Eva songbook, brought to life by Helen May (vocals/guitar) and accompanied by a group of the country's finest musicians.

Expect a show of pure musical beauty with jazz, soul and timeless ballads.

"The best and most authentic tribute to Eva I've ever heard or seen!"

Eva Cassidy was an American singer and guitarist known for her soulful interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, and pop songs. Born in 1963 in Maryland, she gained local recognition for her powerful, emotive voice and her ability to reinterpret classics with deep sensitivity.

During her lifetime, she didn’t achieve widespread fame, as she preferred small performances and avoided the commercial music scene. Sadly, she passed away in 1996 at just 33 years old from melanoma.

Her posthumous fame grew after the release of the compilation album Songbird in 1998, which showcased her stunning renditions of songs like Fields of Gold and Over the Rainbow. Her music later reached international audiences, especially after being featured on BBC Radio, leading to chart success in the UK and beyond.

Eva Cassidy is now celebrated as one of the most expressive and timeless vocalists of her generation, admired for her purity of tone and emotional honesty.

SECOND READING ANNOUNCEMENT

For those of you interested in starring in our future production of ‘The Flint Street Nativity’, there will be a second reading for the play on WEDNESDAY June 17th 2026 at Colne Little Theatre, at 7.30 pm.

Please note that this date REPLACES the one previously mentioned for Tues 16th.

Mizzis Horrocks' class of seven year olds is about to perform their nativity play at Flint Street Junior School for the proud mums and dads - and the occasional social worker. Squabbles arise when Gabriel wants to play Mary, the Star grumbles he's not a proper star like they have at NASA, Herod won't stop waving to his mum and dad and the subversive Innkeeper is determined to liven up the traditional script. And then the stick insect escapes...

The children are played by adults, who later play their parents so the set changes accordingly to reflect the difference in scale.

The roles on offer are:

Male

Inkeeper
Star
Ass
Narrator
Herod/Joseph
Wise Frankincense
Shepherd

Female

Mary
Wise Gold
Angel
Gabriel
Shepherd

If you’re interested in any of the above roles, please get in touch or just turn up to the readings.

We look forward to seeing you there😃
