We have an ocean of activity here at the day after , our baby seagull chicks are looking incredibly sweet as are our soon to hatch baby squids.

Here at our aquarium we operate catch and release tanks and as soon as the ink sacs become visible we will be returning our eggs to hatch in their natural habitat. So if you haven't already, come on down this weekend to come and see them while they're still here!!🦑

As it’s we wanted to jump on the appreciation bandwagon to celebrate and thank all of the fantastic volunteers past and present at St Abbs Aquarium and Marine Station!

Over the last few months in particular while creating St Abbs Aquarium, we couldn’t have done it without their incredible help. They are not just friendly faces but very knowledgeable too, if you pay us a visit make sure you ask them lots questions! 🦀🪼

It was an excellent last few days joining Scottish Nudibranch Festival and Marine Quest on their sea slug searching adventures! There were some incredible photos and knowledge to share all day and it was brilliant to get involved.

It was also fantastic welcoming them to St Abbs Aquarium on Saturday, giving us the chance to show off the nudibranchs we have in our tanks too. Hopefully sea you again next year!

Comment down below if you can spot the nudi in the last photo! 🤩

Over the last few weeks, we have had some lovely reviews from all our fantastic visitors so far, however one question we have heard a lot is why is the big tank so murky? So… we thought we’d take the opportunity to clear this query up (pun very much intended).

💡Did you know that St Abbs Marine Station has a direct pump system connected to the sea? So, all the microscopic plankton and algae species that affect water visibility in the deep blue affect our tank too! We think this is great because it means we already have the perfectly mixed cocktail of seawater to support the diverse range of species that live in our tank.

Don’t worry though you’ll still see some fantastic wildlife. Not only do our fish conduct regular flybys (or swimbys) of the front of the tank, but we also have an underwater camera inside meaning you can peer in on the amazing underwater world of our mesocosm tank. Plus, where else can you get that kind of zoom on a respiring dab?

Come down to St Abbs Harbour today to check it out for yourself!

We are excited to announce the opening of our new public aquarium on the site of St Abbs Marine Station!

Over the last few months our staff and volunteers have worked hard to build an aquarium full of the incredible wildlife of the North Sea...

So why not come on down to visit us in St Abbs Harbour and discover it for yourself?

We are open from 10-4pm everyday, the site is wheelchair accessible, has games for children and is dog friendly. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly into the running of our independent research station. Buy tickets on arrival or from The St Abbs Visitor Centre.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
