We have classes for all ages and abilities run by an excellent team of qualified teachers. Kelvedon Dance Studio is a well established dance school based in the heart of the community. We aim to promote a love of dance and believe it should be open to all ages and abilities. Dancing is invaluable for both physical and mental well being as well as confidence and self expression. It’s an enjoyable w
ay to socialise and escape from the pressures of everyday life. We are based at the United Reformed Church, Kelvedon and offer weekday and Saturday classes for all ages; 31/2 yrs to Adults. We follow the ISTD syllabus and offer the opportunity to take examinations in the following subjects:-
Classical Ballet
Tap Dance
Modern Dance
Jazz Dance
Examinations are not compulsory, but provide a wonderful sense of achievement for all the hard work undertaken in order to meet the required standard. Dance is for fun and enjoyment, therefore if a child doesn't wish to undergo an examination, once we feel they have reached the required standard, they can be moved up to the next grade accordingly. Students are encouraged to strive for personal success in their ISTD examinations and to take part in the annual Choreographic Competition. All students have the opportunity to perform on stage in our School Productions and also at local events. We charge termly student fees and ‘pay as you go’ for adult classes. CLASSES
Dance classes are taught in friendly and encouraging environment in one of our two studios at the recently refurbished Kelvedon United Reformed Church. Other facilities include comfortable changing and waiting areas, complete with disabled access. Fees for all child and student classes are charged four times a year, with payment due in September, November, February and May. Fees for adult classes are on a pay as you go basis
CLASSICAL BALLET
Ballet is a highly technical form of dance, with its own vocabulary. Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th Century and later developed into a concert form in France and Russia. Ballet is the foundation of many types of dance and for this reason we try to encourage students to attend ballet classes as well as studying the other genre. Although a very disciplined style, classes are great fun and commence with a basic movement class from the age of 3 ½ years. TAP DANCE
Tap dance is one of the more relaxed genres, allowing the expression of rhythm and musicality. The syllabus covers a wide range of styles and influences from the traditional, Fred Astaire feel to American Soft Shoe and African styles. MODERN
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is a very dynamic form of dance and involves a diverse syllabus of style and choreography. It incorporates a strong limbering section, which focuses on developing core stability, flexibility and strength, and it allows students to bring their work “alive” through improvisation. Modern Dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. Classes commence at Primary level, at the age of 5 years old. We are also launching a new “Mini Movers” class in 2013/14 for children aged 3-5 years, as an introduction to the fun of dance and in preparation for further classes in all genres. JAZZ
The Jazz Awards provide a basic grounding in modern jazz and are ideal for young teenagers or the late beginner for recreational dancing. The syllabus has many influences and provides diverse dance styles for the students to experience and develop. Classes are great fun; they give the students the opportunity to express their individual personalities and the freedom to be creative through dance. Jazz classes are for the teenage student. There are three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. ADULT DANCE CLASSES
These classes are a good opportunity to meet people and make new friends, whilst enjoying the benefits of exercise. We provide Ballet, Tap and Jazz classes for adults of any age and experience on a pay as you go basis. Newcomers are welcome throughout the year; we’d love to see you.
