National Cinema Weekend is coming to Firstsite! 🎬✨

This year’s celebration is all about who we share the big screen with - whether that’s someone you go to the cinema with all the time, someone you’ve never been to the cinema with before, or someone who’s long overdue a trip to the movies.

Whoever you choose to bring along, this is the perfect weekend to make it happen - with all cinema screenings just £4 a ticket on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September🍿

From big-screen blockbusters and much-loved favourites to smaller indie gems, there’s plenty to choose from - including Supergirl, perfect for continuing the superhero fun after a day at 👀🦸

We’ll also have accessible screenings available, helping more people enjoy the big-screen experience together.

Colchester’s Festival of Rice & Spice is coming to Firstsite! 🌶️🍚✨

On Saturday 12 September, we’re delighted to be welcoming to Firstsite for an afternoon celebrating culture, community, creativity and the incredible diversity of our city.

For more than a decade, this volunteer-led festival has brought local community groups together to share food, art, music, traditions and stories - creating a space where everyone can come together, celebrate what makes us unique and connect with one another 🫶

From cultural food and performances to art, activities and plenty of opportunities to get involved, there’ll be lots to discover throughout the afternoon.

Don’t miss Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Peter Parker faces a new threat in a world that no longer remembers him, alongside Christopher Nolan’s mythic action epic The Odyssey.

For something more intimate, discover On The Sea, a beautiful and sensual exploration of masculinity, place and desire, and Ish, following two 12-year-old best friends as they navigate the impact of a police stop and search.

We’re also pleased to offer accessible screenings, including a relaxed screening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and a captioned screening of Ish, creating a welcoming cinema experience for everyone.

The final week of Summer Holiday Fun is here! ☀️🎨🎉

We’re going out with a big creative celebration! Join us this week for a fantastic line-up of free family activities, from making a collaborative sound sculpture and exploring wellbeing through storytelling, to creating your very own animal mascot head-dress ready for the Firstsite Games 🦄🐘

Then, we’ll finish the summer with an End of Summer Paint Party! 🥳 Bring your favourite things to paint, get colourful and creative, and celebrate the end of six weeks of Holiday Fun together.

Discover the expressive world of monoprinting in our Monoprint Day: Texture, Gesture & Etching Press workshop 🎨

Spend the day experimenting with texture, gesture and intuitive mark-making through music-led exercises. You’ll also get hands-on with an etching press to create your own unique layered prints.
