Jo Angell ( ) is a contemporary British artist based in Essex. Her work explores the expressive impact of colour through paintings, prints and other mediums.

“I am a painter whose work explores the expressive power of colour. Rooted in abstraction, my practice is inspired by the interplay between nature and local culture in the places I visit.

I’m interested in how we absorb and respond to the world—how our experiences shape the way we see and feel. Each piece is an exploration of that dynamic, a conversation between me, the materials, and the viewer.

I have been selected three times for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and showed two works in the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. I have recently been invited to show a small collection of work in the launch of the new online gallery at The Minories, Colchester. I am a member of the Colchester Art Society and Artcan, and regularly exhibit with the Wivenhoe Art Trail and Crouch End Open Studios.”

Introducing Minories Central.

From 15 September, The Minories will have a new temporary home in the heart of Colchester.

While our main building prepares to welcome the Banksy exhibition from October to February, we are moving our much-loved markets, workshops, pop-ups and creative activity into a new space on Culver Street, right next to Flying Tiger.

Minories Central will keep space open for artists, makers, families, audiences and ideas—right in the middle of the city.

All being well, we will open Tuesday 15 September, and will begin taking bookings for markets, workshops and pop-ups in the coming days.

Follow us for progress, programme announcements and ways to get involved.

All are welcome to meet the selected artists on Saturday 5th September 12-2pm.

On 3 September, the Minories Artist Network will open their new exhibition, Heatwave & Flood. The Minories Artist Network is a collective of over 100 East Anglian artists. Each exhibition is artist-led. Meet the Artists and opening launch Saturday 5th September 12 - 2 pm. All welcome!

On 10 September, the Suffolk School of Art presents ‘Close to the edge’, their latest exhibition. They, as a group of creative individuals, staff and students at the Suffolk School of Art, elect to take this opportunity to make their feelings known about climate change through their art. Exhibition closes on 4 October!

On 20 September, our new workshop, Draw From Becker, will be led by artist Jevan Watkins Jones. All abilities welcome! This drawing workshop celebrates the acquisition of a new Becker drawing, Horses and Binder Teams for the VBLF collection held at The Minories. Book your ticket now via the link in bio!
