Arbory Players

Arbory Players ARBORY PLAYERS- drama group We are a small, friendly drama group in the south of the Isle of Man.

Our aim is to Entertain..... This means our productions are always great to watch. Our main theatre is the Arbory Parish Hall at Ballabeg but we have performed in pubs, restaurants or wherever we can find a captive audience.

Hi all. I've just received the following message from the Chair of MADF:

"I am writing to advise you of the sad news that Vivienne Hague has passed away. Vivienne was an ardent supporter of Manx Drama and looked after the Friends of Manx Drama for many years - she will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements are likely to be announced after TT fortnight. Our thoughts are with Vivienne's family at this time."

Vivienne was a great supporter of the Players and came to most of our performances over the years, and I mean years! She was a particular fan of Juan and John and loved our community approach to theatre. She was quite a character and island drama will be the poorer without her enthusiasm and unwavering support of us "out of towner" groups. I counted her as a friend and will miss her. God rest.

Sorry to report that we've had to withdraw from the one-act this year. One of the cast had the difficult choice of being whisked off to Marakesch or spending Valentine's night performing. Guess which won!

At least we're set to go next year. We have some exciting ideas for a Christmas production this year so watch this space for more info.

Short notice but if you are interested Rushen would love to see you.

Some familiar faces rehearsing for our entry into the One Act Festival of plays. Our entry is "Cruising" a play that explores the emotions of a group of people who meet up during a sunshine cruise. Expect some laughter and some tears. We will be performing on Thursday 8th Feb so please come and support us.

Needless to say the cast are wishing the cruise was exploring the arctic so they could wear nice, warm clothes. We appreciate them suffering for their art!!

Dear all
It is with great sadness that we hear Dennis Cross passed away this morning at Nobles Hospital.
He was a long term member of the Arbory Players, creating many memorable performances since the early days of the group's history. I'm sure we all have our own special memories of a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by all who have been fortunate enough to know him.
Juan

This picture is probably Dennis's last acting role when he was an extra in the Mindhorn film a couple of years ago. A trooper to the end.

Some photos from the final dress rehearsal of the Coming of the Saints, (One-act play) including prompt (who of course isn't really needed...) and long suffering director. Performance is Saturday night - first on. Steve and Les are brilliant and Sophie, as always, is a little star. Good luck everyone! Di

Busy rehearsing for our entry in the One-Act Festival at the Erin Arts. We are doing "The Coming of the Saints", written by local author James Franklin. The play is about how Christianity MAY have arrived on the island... Its light-hearted and we're having fun trying out different things. Our slot is Saturday 20th Feb at 7pm followed by adjudication and the full awards ceremony.

Thanks to everyone who supported our production of "Flint Street Nativity". Our audience on both nights was great and feedback was really, really positive. It seems a good night was had by all, including the cast. Hope you've all stopped laughing. Must admit we are all having problems singing the correct words to the carols after that!

Next on our agenda is our entry into the One-Act Festival in February. We'll be doing a short play written by a local playwright, James Franklin, on how the Island became Christian... well one version anyway. Will post more details once rehearsals start in earnest after Christmas.
