It’s that time of year again; we’re very much looking forward to exhibiting a select number of our wares at the Saatchi Gallery in just over two weeks time, with a weighting towards examples of 20th century art, including Sheila Fell RA, Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, Norman Cornish, Tom McGuinness, John Lessore, Josef Herman RA, Hughie O’Donoghue RA, Ernest Proctor and Sir William Gillies RA, amongst many others.

We always ensure we exhibit at this fair, we have done for many years now; a highlight of the art-fair calendar.

We have a limited number of complimentary tickets available for the event, feel free to private message us if you require any.

Now I would say there have been few occasions over the past fifteen years where Christine and I have disagreed quite so much about an acquisition. This painting, from 1926, is admittedly a marmite piece of art, I’m under no misapprehension about that, but where many (most) see ugliness, I see humour, character and intrigue, not just from the subject but from the artist. I genuinely love this painting; one hundred years old and likely as divisive now as then.

It’s signed and dated twice, lower centre, the artist presumably considering the first dark on dark signature too difficult to read. In truth both remain difficult to read, so some research pending before listing for sale. What a talking piece in any home 😀

We had a fabulous evening last night, co-hosting a major event with Porsche Centre South Lakes and the fabulous Jopsons Jewellers. The Porsche Centre was turned over to some very special customer-loaned cars, wonderful artwork (of course), fine jewellery and watches, great musical entertainment and free-flowing cocktails.

Thank you so much to all who attended and made it such an enjoyable experience!

A couple of near-term gallery opening changes.
1) To prepare for an event south of the county, we’ll be closed this Friday, 21st August, reopening on Saturday 22nd
2) To prepare for an additional event on Saturday 29th August, we’ll also be closed on that day.

Apologies for the two one-day closures. As always, we’ll be available by all means of contact during those days.

A quick spin around the re-hung Adams Room, featuring six new works by Craig Simpson as well as our fabulous 60s abstract, Symfoni from 1965. For all of you in the South questioning the fire, this is what you do in summer in the north 😀

We mentioned our latest Sheila Fell (RA) acquisition 2-3 weeks ago, well we’ve now had the chance to bring it into the gallery, photographed etc. and it’s now online and will be hung in-gallery this coming week.

Potato fields towards evening dates to 1973/4 and was first exhibited at the 1974 Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition.

This last week we collected six new works from the very talented Craig Simpson; all are now online and will be hung tomorrow as part of our forthcoming mixed exhibition. These are quite exceptional, several of commanding size with associated impact. Congratulations once more to Craig, a fine focused body of work and a reward for all of the hundreds/thousands of hours of creativity and toil put in.

I couldn’t not acquire this 1965 abstract oil painting this week on my travels, one for our more affordable Mid Century Modern Alternatives selection. It’s got a real energy and life about it for me, colourful without garishness, still housed in its original artist’s basic framing, pure 60s.

Well that didn’t even make it to the website nor social media before finding its next home; Snowscape, Cumbria is a small work by the late Sheila Fell (RA) from 1979, exhibited within Sheila’s final in-life exhibition at the New Grafton Gallery, London.
