Have you ever considered your dominant eye when trying to improve your game? 👁️

A perfectly straight snooker shot can sometimes look slightly wrong when you get down to play it, why is that? Most players have heard of the “dominant eye” and some have been told that the cue should sit directly beneath it. But sighting in snooker is more complicated than that. Your two eyes work together, and the position from which you perceive a straight line most accurately can vary from player to player. Before you can aim consistently, you need to understand how you see the line 📈

What on earth is happening on table 1?

A glimpse behind the curtain at Surrey Snooker Academy.

We are testing camera technology that will help recreate the exact position of the balls after a foul - and perhaps, in the future, lead to more exciting developments.

It's still experimental, with plenty to test and prove, but every bit of magic starts with precision.

NEW: Snooker Grip and Cue Delivery

A good grip should support the cue without squeezing, steering or restricting its movement.

Our latest Learning Centre article explains:

✅ where the cue should rest across the fingers
✅ how the fingers open and close during the stroke
✅ why the forearm should be vertical before delivery
✅ how elbow movement can pull the cue across the line
✅ why the follow-through is essential to a reliable cue action

The article includes original coaching photographs and video demonstrations from Surrey Snooker Academy.

What happens before you get down on the shot can shape everything that follows.

Our latest article explores the snooker pre-shot routine as a complete psychological, visual and physical process — not simply a few practice swings before delivery.

We look at its two distinct phases:

Standing: assess the table, sight the line, decide and commit.
Down on the shot: settle, refine the aim, deliver and stay down.

A reliable routine can help bring order to complex decisions, reduce doubt under pressure and give every shot a more consistent beginning.
