Coalburn I.O.R. Pipe Band

Coalburn IOR Pipe Band can confirm that Leading Drummer, William Kerr, has decided to leave the position in our Grade 2 band with immediate effect.

He continues to fulfil his tutoring role within the Grade 4B band.

Craig Shanks will take up the position on an interim basis and the band are committed to our competing schedule for the remainder of the season.

William leaves with our sincere thanks for his services over the past 18 years and the part he has played in bringing success to the band. Most recently in 2023 where European and Scottish Championship titles were won, culminating in our promotion to Grade 2 as Champion of Champions.

The band were competing at the Dollar Academy contest today where we won 1st place in Grade 2! 🏆

Next up is the British Championships at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston on May 30th 🎶

The 2026 competition season gets underway today as we head to Gourock.

We play 15:23 in Grade 2 and 16:20 in Grade 1.

A proud night for Band President Donald Williams last night. He was inducted into the inaugural Lanarkshire Piping Hall of Fame at the Peter Macleod Memorial Recital.

The recognition of his services to the piping community across Lanarkshire is hugely deserved, having dedicated most of his life to piping and the development of young players.

Well done Donald.
