'Sculpture communicates an immediate sense of life.' Barbara Hepworth, one of the most influential sculptors of the twentieth century.

Here she is in January 1962 working on a plaster prototype of her work 'Single Form (memorial)'. As with all Hepworth's work, the structure and rhythm of the sculpture demonstrates the artist's instinctive feel for her material. 🔨

Working in both abstraction and figuration, much of Hepworth's art expresses the relationships we have with each other and our surroundings, and how art can reflect and alter our perceptions of the world.

Painting his dachshunds became a daily ritual for Hockney — a simple act that turned into an exploration of love, companionship and everyday joy.

📘 In 1998 he released 'Dog Days', a tender collection of drawings and watercolours capturing life with his two beloved dogs.

Whilst we don't have Hockney's work featuring dogs at Tate St Ives, you can see his drawing 'In an Old Book' 1966 in our Modern Conversation displays.
