Away from home … but of course I have a gelliplate with me!
And this morning I’m just following my curiosity… what if I collect rubbings of man made and natural textures I find around me?

So I used a wax crayon to do some rubbings of surfaces that caught my attention.
I rolled out a thin layer of black paint on my gelliplate and put the rubbing on top (crayon side down) to do an image transfer then picked the image up with a thin layer of titanium buff paint.
Some worked well- others not so much but it’s a good way to just have a little play and follow my curiosity and as ever that’s enough right?!!

Lovely session today for Clevedon Art Club with Henry from Henry St.Leger - lots of varied drawing exercises outside along Poets Walk this morning then some storyboard suggestions for the afternoon session.
Plenty to think about!

It’s less than a week until the Gel Printers Summit starts …

Here’s the line up for this years instructors and what they’re teaching:

Clare Cosens: Collagraph and gel printing
Marta Dyer-Smith: Multilayered abstract gel prints
Diana Garrison: Stencils and registration for repeatable prints
Sally Hirst: Frisket masking and negative shapes
Zenna James: Transparent and opaque layering plus color theory
Lucille van Ligten: Gel printing and charcoal image transfer
Julie McSpedden: Gel printed foliage vase
Elizabeth St. Hilaire: Feathers, stencils and organic collage papers
Emily Sharp: Reverse coloring and monoprint collage
Charlotte Wensley: Nature-inspired textures and abstract collage
Julia Weston: Layered gel printing and concertina sketchbooks (swipe for a little glimpse into my lesson - reviewing the first layers before we add the wet strength tissue layers!)

The summit is self-paced so you can enjoy it whenever you have the time.
One new lesson drops each day from September 28 through October 11, but with lifetime access you are never behind.

Early bird price ends September 27 and enrollment closes October 11. After that, GPS26 is done until next year.

Years ago I used to think I needed to be more sophisticated in some of my choices - like colour!
I’ve since realised that sophistication in anything is overrated and not really in my wheel house anyway.
I like what I like so best just lean into that and be me!
So today I sat in the garden on a gorgeous sunny day looking at a beautiful book my sister gave me full of wonderful colour inspiration and relishing my love of all the brights, preferably together and even better if they clash!
On the weekend I picked some beautiful flowers from Five Acre Farm CIC - pinks and oranges all mixed in together! Makes my heart happy!!
Being true to what I love these days is where the joy is at and that’s good enough!

Friday play with printmaking - first layer painting onto the gelliplate to pull the bolder shapes then the second layer trace monoprinting on a thin ink layer with various tools, including a bamboo fork and a blunt paint brush.

I pop out most days for a walk with a sketchbook to capture a quick scene to then mess with in print… and I’m beginning to see something in these 2 processes combined.
