Books, sales; sjkart.co.uk Before I retired, I was a professional engineer.

I dealt with energy and carbon emissions in architecture and industry. As a teenager I was keen on cycling, then on hill walking when I was at university. In my early twenties I attended evening art classes, and did some work in oils. My interest in cycling revived later. I’ve toured by bicycle extensively in the British Isles and on the continent. I picked up painting again in 2019, and I spent t

he lockdown summer working on a detailed painting of part of the garden. Then I did a series of acrylic paintings about global warming, which have been exhibited locally. More recently I discovered watercolour. I started sketching when I was in cafes with cycling friends, with some quirky or amusing results. About 80 of these pictures have gone into my "I'm out for coffee!" books. I’m moving now to a more abstract or looser style in acrylic. In some of my paintings I refer to memories and photographs from my cycling tours. I and my wife have lived in our present home near Kingston Seymour since we moved there with our two daughters in 1980. Most of my paintings can be seen on my website sjkart.co.uk. I also have an Etsy shop called SteveKinsellaArt. Steve Kinsella

On Friday I set up a colourful exhibition of my pictures in StStrawberry Line CafeYatton Station, where they’ll be for the month of July.
A few days ago I received from the printer copies of the MAP I’ve designed which shows all the routes and active cafés (plus a few more) that are in “I’m Out for Coffee!” Books 1 and 2. The map is 83cm x 58cm (A1), folded to A5 size. Yesterday I took 3 maps to ThThe Owl In The Oak which sold almost immediately so I went home and took back more. Claire and I also had our first ride on the new cycling/walking/riding link from Kingston Seymour across the river to Wick St Lawrence. The council had (at last) removed the barriers and opened the track the day before, Friday 5th July 2024 (see

On Saturday I took some more I'm Out for coffee! books to The Owl In The Oak cafe in Yeo Bank Lane, Kingston Seymour, pictured below. This new cafe has become popular and was very lively. Excellent coffee and cake. (It's open Fri to Sunday at present).
I'm sorry to say the cycle track across the river is still barricaded by North Somerset Council. Any news on this will be posted at Clevedon and Weston Cycle Route Support Group (as it has for the last 12 years)

It seems Christmas is coming (again). I've persuaded myself to have a stall of "I'm Out for Coffee!" books and framed prints, plus some paintings of cycling across the Alps, at Cadbury House, Congresbury on Thursday 23 November in their "Christmas Fayre".
Hopefully someone might like to give a cycling Christmas present to hang on the wall, or a book as a stocking filler. I'll be alongside Claire who will be bristling with her willow baskets.

Clevedon Literary Festival is 31 May to 11 June. I was in the café at Banwell Garden Centre topping up their stock of my “I’m out for coffee!” picture books. This interested a lady at a nearby table, who introduced herself as Diney Costello, the author of historical novels set in the war years. Having met me (who’s not at all famous), she bought one of my books at the counter. Now I’m looking out for her books in the phone box library…….

I see Diney supported a Ventoux cycle race, for a Parkinson’s charity.
This is my picture of cycling friends John, Phil, Julian, Jim, and George, enjoying coffee and cake at Banwell Garden Centre one Tuesday. It’s from “I’m out for coffee!” Book Two. I would have been there with them again today, but I was in Portishead doing folk dancing – sort of.
