Well what a great field we have for our big competition at Spen Victoria
Finals day on Saturday 5th September
4pm practice, 5pm start
Game 1
Liam Griffin vs Ronan Allen
This will be a great game to watch with Liam playing the green lots in the comp and throughout the winter, he is as good as anybody on there but maybe the young Ronan Allen could put pebbles in Liams shoes and get some young blood into the later stages of the competition.
Game 2
Stuart King vs Jonny Wood
Another thriller of a game sees Stuart King who has qualified in lots of things he has entered this year, against Jonny Wood the Mirfield Merit Winner, plus they have both had great seasons in the Mirfield league aswell, it's sure set up to be a thriller.
Game 3
Andrew Sykes vs Chris Kelly
Andrew Sykes a legend of Mirfield Old Bank, who now plays for another top team Pudsey bowling club, has alot of experience under his belt on that green playing it alot over the years, whereas Chris Kelly has just took his team to win the Mirfield league under the captaincy himself, he is also a Yorkshire county player who rarely has a off game for the county, this is going to be a great one to watch.
Game 4
Josh Mordue vs Mark Atkinson
Both of these players are top players for there sides in the top division of the Mirfield league both making multiple final days over the years, it's going to be a great game to complete the first four.
Game 5
James Wilcox vs Simon Coupe
What a game we have on our hands to start the second four of superbly, James Wilcox who is having a great year at the moment winning the Brighouse Classic and is the reigning Yorkshire Merit holder, which will bring him lots of confidence going into the last 16 of the event, whereas Simon Coupe the legend of the game who has won numerous things throughout the years will be looking to add another one to his trophy cabinet
Game 6
Ryan Clark vs Mitch Toth
Ryan the lower hopton captain will be looking to try and get himself in the champ of champs by winning the event having playing on the green alot over the winter, Mitch Toth has turned up quite alot over the years and done well in the sweeps, let's see if he can carry the winter form into the summer.
Game 7
Callum Wraight vs Baz Holland
Callum the one of the absolute current greats of crown green bowls will be wanting to add some more silverware to his gigantic trophy cabinet he will go into the competition as favourite, but can Baz from Dodworth cause a big upset in the first round by knocking him out we will have to see because he is more than capable.
Game 8
Josh Brown vs Chris Mordue
A great game to complete the first round games as both the players are ex homesters to the club and know the green very well, Josh will be wanting the Crosland Moor lads to get behind him for what is going to be a great game, Chris will be wanting to go for his second triumph in the competition since his latest win in 2024, maybe the class of him being a legend of the game might get him out of a big game like this.
