A little carving practice turned into a Hobbit Hole scene 🏡

Still very much a work in progress, but I’m enjoying seeing it take shape one cut at a time.

Work in progress 🏡

One of the things I wanted to do more of this year was improve my carving skills, so I’ve started experimenting with a Hobbit Hole scene.

Using the Dremel with a flex shaft attachment and a variety of carving, shaping and sanding bits, I’m gradually bringing the idea to life.

Truth be told, I’m not entirely sure where this project is going yet, but that’s part of the fun. Sometimes it’s nice to create simply for the enjoyment of making.

Work in progress 🗺️

I’ve got a new laser-cut map on the go, but this one needs something a little different. The route is going to be highlighted in orange, so it’s time to get the acrylic paint pens out and start adding some colour.

I love this stage of a project. The cutting and engraving are done, but it’s those final details that really bring everything to life and make it unique.

Looking forward to showing you the finished piece soon.

It was recently my son’s 17th birthday and he only had one request… a Lordship 👑

So after a bit of Googling, I ended up buying him a small Lordship linked to a piece of land in Cumbria. Once the official documents arrived, I started pulling together ideas for something a bit more personal.

I combined elements from the paperwork with an old Peach family crest I inherited from my Grandad, along with the motto “Memor et Fidelis” meaning Mindful and Faithful.

After converting everything into an SVG file, I layered it up and cut it on the laser to create this plaque.

Honestly really pleased with how this one turned out. A fun project, but also something that hopefully means a little more because of the family connection behind it.

Well… that’s my Marathon Era officially done and dusted 🏅

So it felt right that my first proper project back in the workshop was making a display for my London Marathon medal and bib.

Using the laser cutter, I cut the main shapes from 3mm walnut ply with a lighter layer behind to help everything stand out. The little plaque with my details was inspired by the medal design itself. Simple, but personal.

I’m genuinely grateful to have had the opportunity to challenge myself and do something really hard. I was lucky enough to get a charity place through and ran for , raising over £1200 with more still coming in.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated, supported, messaged, tracked me on the day, or encouraged me along the way. It genuinely meant a lot and helped get me round those final tough miles.

Huge thank you as well to Shelter and B&Q for the experience of a lifetime. And an even bigger thank you to and Alfie for battling the manic streets of London to support me on the day ❤️

Now… back to making 👊

With race day nearly here, and after battling injury through training, this marathon is going to be a real challenge. If you’re able to support me and donate to Shelter, I’d be hugely grateful. Every donation, big or small, helps make the miles feel worthwhile.

Too much desk time, not enough workshop time. That’s changing soon.
More making, more sparks, more to come 👊

Feels like forever since I last picked up a Dremel and properly made something. Work’s been non-stop lately, but once January’s done and dusted, I’ll be back in the workshop where I belong.

More making, more tutorials, and plenty of tips and advice coming soon 👊

I’ve recently upgraded to a 10W laser etcher and cutter, and it turns out if you take a decent photo, run it through ChatGPT to get a simple vector, spraypaint a ceramic tile and then laser etch it… the titanium in the paint actually fuses to the tile.

The results are brilliant.

New laser cutter upgrade: Creality Falcon 10W.
I’ve gone from only being able to etch pieces up to 70mm to now being able to cut and engrave up to 400mm square, so this is a bit of a step up.

Tried it out on this multilayered map for someone who took part in the Remembrance Day parade a couple of weekends ago. I of course used my Dremel 8150 to tidy up the edges and clean out the letters — makes a big difference on the final finish.

Really excited about the possibilities with this machine.
