Plot 2, Chippenham, North Wiltshire.

An eco new build sitting at the boundary between a residential neighbourhood and riverside parkland. The design is shaped around the tension between public and private - a defining garden wall marks the transition from the street into the home, giving the exterior a reserved, considered presence while concealing the sequence of courtyards and open views within.

Diagonal timber cladding, brick paving and climbing planting keep the building connected to its natural surroundings.

Mangotsfield Folly, Bristol was built in collaboration with Sustrans and Emerson Green Town Council, it was funded by an ACE grant.

As a street architecture intervention designed to bring art to the suburbs of Bristol -the folly was built entirely from salvaged materials, completely plastic and cement free, including below ground - and designed to be fully demountable and reused once the project came to an end.

The structure was conceived as a canvas for local artists and creatives, with its junctions deliberately designed to be easy to replicate, and its form open enough to evolve over the course of the year. Over 30 creatives used the space for events and creative endeavours and many thousands of people visited it within a single cycle of the sabbats.

Unfortunately, like most street art it was removed (by arson) prior to being moved to its forever home, however the artworks were saved and moved to a local primary school.

On the interior we really see the blend of the various styles and eras. From the Scandi style kitchen with minimal tones, to the bright yellow corridor and doors as well as the multi-coloured gate.

This home pays homage to a wide mixture of tastes and characteristics, while at the same time creating a space that is unified and does not feel conflicting in any way.

Old Ashley Hill, Bristol.

A self-build eco home on an elevated hillside site between Montpelier and St Werburghs, designed to be as much a part of the community as the city it looks out over. Large front windows frame panoramic views across Bristol and connect the house to the street, while the bedrooms are buried into the hillside to provide privacy and shelter from road noise.

The design takes its cues from Bristol's layered architectural character, playing historic and contemporary references against each other throughout. A full landscaping scheme - terraces, planting banks and six flights of external stairs -makes the most of every level of the steeply sloping site. Reclaimed and natural materials were used throughout, with passive solar design, photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting and biodiverse planting woven into the project from the outset.

Our House in a Barn is now multi award-winning! At the RIBA South Awards 2026, it won Building of the Year, the Sustainability Award and a RIBA South Award 2026. The judges said: “House in a Barn presents a bold vision for how reuse in architecture can look and feel in the hands of caring, knowledgeable, and skilful architect-builders.” A huge thank you to the owners and all our collaborators including Giraffe Engineering, Nick Bulley Designs and Rachel Tilley Interiors.

The interior design of this project centres on a large open-plan kitchen and garden room, where full-height glazed walls dissolve the boundary between inside and the courtyard garden beyond. Exposed timber columns and beams sit alongside reused stone walls, with the natural materials and internal thermal mass keeping the space feeling grounded and considered.

The circular moon gate, a nod to the client's own identity, moves through from the exterior into the interior detailing, contrasting the clean orthogonal lines of the new extension with something altogether more personal.

House through the Red Gate, Cotswolds.

A listed barn conversion formed from two Cotswold-stone byres, connected by a new open-plan kitchen and garden room that draws on the language of tin-roofed pole barns found across old farmyards. Full-height glazed walls bring the courtyard garden into the heart of the home, with a new gatehouse forming the entrance and providing privacy from the lane beyond.

A circular moon gate, taken from the client's own narrative, introduces a softer geometry against the orthogonal lines of the extension and carries through into the landscaping. A cantilevered LVL roof shades the glazing without impacting the listed structure, while boreholes in the courtyard serve a ground source heat pump, and an outbuilding houses the solar panels, battery storage and car chargers.

People often get confused and unclear as to what makes sustainable architecture and sustainably design homes. There are 3 key points to consider: Ecological, social and economic.

Each play a key role in making a building/ home sustainable and environmentally friendly.

We are thrilled to announce that House in a Barn has been shortlisted for the RIBA South Award 2026.

A Class Q barn conversion in West Oxfordshire, the project transforms a former silage barn into a sustainable home. A breathable timber frame sits within the original steel portal frame, clad in materials salvaged from the barn itself. A pioneering multi-layered polycarbonate wall draws natural light deep into the interior, while reused concrete floors and walls from the original structure add warmth and thermal mass throughout.
