Bass Thomas Butler joins the Chichester Singers and Southern Pro Musica for “Great Classics” at Chichester Cathedral on 28 March, performing as soloist in Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass and Mozart’s Requiem. A fourth-year Royal Academy of Music student and Lay Vicar at Westminster Abbey, Tom shares his love of oratorio, the drama of Mozart’s famous Tuba mirum, and the dynamic interplay of Haydn’s writing. Supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, he is building a flourishing solo career alongside choral work. Passionate about Russian Orthodox music and opera, Tom’s focus is on versatility, collaboration, and growing his profile as a soloist. We are really enjoying rehearsals for our next concert in Chichester Cathedral on 28 March and we are looking forward to sharing this wonderful music with you! 🎶✨

Our programme features Mozart’s powerful and deeply moving Requiem. Composed in Vienna in late 1791 when Mozart was just 35, the work was left unfinished at his death that December. It was later completed and delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had commissioned it in memory of his young wife, Anna.

We’ll also be performing Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass. Written in 1799, it is one of six glorious masses composed to celebrate his patron’s wife’s name day - full of energy, brilliance and joy.

We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a real choral treat of an evening. Tickets are selling fast so get yours here while you can!
