The ceramicists at Artisan Gallery demonstrate just how versatile and expressive clay can be. Working with similar raw materials, each maker brings their own distinctive style, techniques, and creative vision, producing work that is remarkably different from one artist to the next.

From finely detailed decorative pieces and sculptural forms to functional tableware and contemporary vessels, the diversity on display is a testament to both the skill of the makers and the endless possibilities of the medium. Some embrace bold colours and textures, while others favour subtle glazes, organic forms, and minimalist aesthetics.

It is this variety that makes ceramics such a fascinating art form. In the hands of different artists, clay can become almost anything—elegant, playful, practical, sculptural, traditional, or entirely unexpected. A visit to Artisan Gallery reveals not only the creativity of its ceramicists but also the extraordinary breadth and character of contemporary ceramics.

I do like to be beside the seaside

There’s something endlessly inspiring about the coast—the ever-changing colours of the sea, weathered driftwood, windswept grasses, and treasures washed ashore by the tide. No two visits are ever the same, and every walk seems to reveal a new texture, shape, or detail waiting to be noticed.

Whether it's gathering inspiration for new designs, clearing my head after a busy week, or simply enjoying the sound of the waves, the coastline is one of my favourite places to be.

Where is your favourite spot by the sea?

Joining us as Guest artist for the next four weeks is

Nicole Phillips, a graduate of Bath College with a degree in Ceramics and Printmaking, embarked on her artistic journey by founding a ceramics studio. Here, she showcased her talent through a collection of hand-painted ceramic creations. Nicole's artistic evolution continued as she launched a contemporary British textiles brand, translating her watercolour designs into digital prints for an array of home decor items.

In recent years, Nicole has dedicated herself to her first love—painting and printmaking. Working primarily in mixed media and acrylic alongside screen printing and collage, she focuses on producing original artworks. Her approach is both innovative and playful, characterised by bold, expressive brushstrokes. Nicole's semi-abstract style vividly conveys her emotional reactions to the world, focussing on the essence of a scene over meticulous detail.

Her work consists of original artwork and screen prints of seascapes, landscapes, botanicals in a semi abstract style. Nicole works from her studio, a converted cow barn, on the South Coast of England on the outskirts of Chichester.

Buying greetings cards from artists is about much more than sending a message—it's a way of supporting creativity, craftsmanship, and independent businesses.

Unlike mass-produced cards, artist-designed cards begin as original works of art. Whether inspired by nature, wildlife, landscapes, or contemporary design, each card reflects the artist's individual style and vision. By purchasing these cards, you're helping artists earn an income from their work and continue creating.

Artist-made cards also offer something more personal. They often feature distinctive imagery that you won't find on the high street, making them feel thoughtful and unique. Many recipients keep particularly beautiful cards long after the occasion has passed, displaying them as miniature artworks rather than simply recycling them.

Buying locally produced cards also supports the wider creative economy, helping galleries, studios, and independent retailers thrive. It's a small purchase that can have a meaningful impact.

So whether you're celebrating a birthday, sending thanks, or simply keeping in touch, choosing a card by an artist means you're giving two gifts: one to the person receiving it, and one to the creative who made it.

It's the last week will be with us. Don't miss his beautiful exhibition.

Andrew creates atmospheric oil landscapes that capture the shifting light, texture, and mood of the British landscape. Working primarily in oils, his paintings explore the relationship between land, sky, and weather, often drawing inspiration from open countryside, coastal paths, and quiet rural scenes.

Rich in texture and layered brushwork, Andrew’s work balances observation with emotion, creating landscapes that feel both familiar and evocative. His use of colour and movement brings a sense of depth and atmosphere to each piece, inviting the viewer into moments of stillness, changing seasons, and dramatic natural light.
