The City of Chester Bluecoat Band was founded in 1853, and one of the oldest bands in the region with deep historical ties to the Bluecoat School, a former charity school in Chester.

Just over a week to go until opening night for Against the Grain's next production, Philip Meeks' fascinating 'Murder, Margaret and Me', featuring (drum roll!), from left to right in the photo, Fiona Wheatcroft as The Spinster, Marian Newman as Margaret Rutherford and Sally Dillon as Agatha Christie.

They're entering the last stages of rehearsal now, lines have been learnt, costumes fitted and characters assimilated. Tickets are selling well, so make sure you don't miss out and secure yours now!

BBC Folk Award winner Sam Carter performs Ballads and Songs: Sam Carter sings Nic Jones, a heartfelt celebration of one of folk’s most influential voices. Nic Jones’s groundbreaking guitar style and emotive singing inspired generations of musicians. Though his career was cut short by a car accident in 1982, his influence endures; Nic’s masterpiece album Penguin Eggs is treasured more than 40 years on.
Hailed by Jon Boden as “the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation,” Sam brings Nic’s timeless songs back to the stage for one season only; a rare chance to hear this remarkable repertoire live.
