Chester Sinfonia A rapidly growing, friendly amateur orchestra based in Chester for keen intermediate players

Chester Sinfonia has earned a reputation as being one of the fastest growing amateur orchestras in the Cheshire/North Wales area. It was formed around 10 years ago with a small number of founder members who have worked very hard to develop the Sinfonia’s unique spirit of being a friendly orchestra for keen and enthusiastic intermediate players. Previous conductors have included Andrew Edwards, and

since 2018 we are delighted to rehearse under the baton of Helen Thomas. We rehearse fortnightly on Friday evenings, 7-9pm at St Columba's Church Hall in Chester and present an informal Christmas event and a Summer picnic event each year to friends and family as well as doing occasional fundraising events for charities. Rehearsals begin again tonight in preparation for our annual Picnic event for friends and family - Friday 3 July this year. By popular request we're returning to Farrenc's Symphony no. 1 following our Play Day early this year. We are also delighted that Alan Jones, one of our violinists, has composed a piece for us called 'Fantasia Devariations'.

Still recovering from an incredible Play Day! 🎻🎺
On Saturday, the hall was absolutely packed for a full day of music making. We tackled some amazing works, with Beethoven's 2nd and Louise Farrenc's 1st symphonies.
The concentration in the room was electric and the sound was massive. Huge thanks to everyone who brought their instruments and their energy.
Check out some of our favourite shots from the day below! 👇
