🌊🎨 Another fantastic second session of our Knutsford Seascape Course! 🎨🌊

This week we explored the incredible range of colours found within the sea. From the rich blue-violets in the foreground to the turquoise sparkles dancing across the surface where the light catches, we looked at how subtle colour shifts can create depth, atmosphere, and movement. πŸ’™πŸ’œβœ¨

To bring extra drama to the painting, we introduced warm yellow glows into the crashing waves, helping the white water come alive against the cooler blues. πŸŒŠπŸ’› Working with paint thinned slightly with turpentine allowed for greater flow, expressive brushwork, and confident mark-making throughout the session.

The focus was on building volume, energy, and rhythm in the waves while beginning to establish the dramatic cliff forms that will continue to develop over the coming weeks. πŸ–ŒοΈβ›°οΈ

It’s wonderful to see these paintings taking shape, and everyone is making fantastic progress. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Another fantastic week at our Farndon oil painting classes, both morning and evening! 🎨✨

So many paintings are progressing beautifully, and it’s been wonderful to welcome a few new students to the group. Watching beginners learn those first essential techniques and start to understand the magic of layering is always exciting.

It’s especially interesting when students come from other mediums and discover what makes oils so special. The beautiful saturated colours, longer drying times, blendability, and richness of finish are hard to beat. There’s a reason oil painting has remained a favourite for centuries!

Well done everyone for another productive and inspiring week. I can’t wait to see how these paintings develop over the coming sessions. πŸ‘πŸŽ¨

Nick’s first ever oil painting and what a fantastic start! πŸŽ¨πŸ‘

This still life shows a great understanding of form, light and shadow, especially for someone just beginning their oil painting journey. The rich violets running through the grapes and drapery create a beautiful harmony across the painting, while the warm yellows of the pears provide a striking focal point.

The subtle colour relationships between the warm and cool areas give the piece real depth and atmosphere, and the careful observation of light brings the fruit to life.

An impressive first oil painting, completed across our weekend Introduction to Oil Painting classes. We can’t wait to see where Nick’s painting journey takes him next! βœ¨πŸπŸ‡

Just look at that copper glow! ✨🧑

What a fantastic week on the Mollington Still Life Course. The challenge of painting reflective metal is all about observing subtle shifts in colour, value and reflected light, and everyone rose to it brilliantly.

The copper jug is really starting to come alive with those warm reflections, while the vibrant blue delphiniums provide the perfect contrast against the rich background. Next week we’ll be adding even more finesseβ€”refining the handle and rim details, pushing the saturation, and enhancing that beautiful luminous quality.

A huge well done to everyone in the class. I can’t wait to see these paintings develop further! 🎨
