Cat. Bag. Out! We're delighted to launch Winter's End 2027!

The Anchoress has been announced as one of the headline acts for next year's Winter's End Progressive Rock festival, alongside Galahad and Italian proggers Barock Project. The event takes place at The Drill Hall in Chepstow from April 8-11.

Joining them on the bill are Scottish prog rockers Machinary, fellow Scots Long Earth, Casual Silence and Skylake, both from the Netherlands, French proggers HamaSaari, Italians Karmamoi and Candacraig.

“As always with the ‘End’ festivals, we’ve tried to create a balance between the old and the new, the familiar and the surprises," says organiser Huw Lloyd-Jones. "To say we are pleased with this lineup would be an understatement: I think it’ll be a fantastic weekend of exceptional live music.”

Full Monty tickets for the Thursday through to Sunday and Standard Weekend tickets for Friday-Sunday are available now, as well as a few 2027 Budget Buster tickets for Winter’s AND Summer’s End available at a discounted price.

"We have decided to relaunch the Golden Ticket, first offered in 2020," Jones adds. "The new ticket will be for eight festivals – Winter’s or Summer’s Ends – at a special one-off price. It really is an inflation-beating bargain and, of course, helps us with the working capital to ensure we can continue promoting the music we love! Details of the new tickets, including how they might work with tickets already bought, can be found on the Summer’s End and Winter’s End websites.

Sad news

We're desperately sad to have to let you know that one of our team, the very lovely Tristan, has passed away.

Tristan looked after the door for us for many years at Winter's End or Summer's End - some years both, when he could spare the time.

He had been a friend of Tom and Henry since they were boys and became close to all of us as he grew into the charming, kind and talented man he was.

During my last conversation with him a few weeks ago, he asked if he could bring the fiddle player from his band to Summer's End in October so he could introduce her to our world. Tristan really was one of us.

The picture is of – from left to right – Tom, Henry, Ieuan and, of course, Tristan.

Our deepest sympathies go to his parents, family and to all his friends. He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him.

That was it, then: Winter's End 2026 done and dusted and what a fantastic weekend it was!

Not surprisingly, Mr and Mrs Lambe were as invaluable as ever. Gill looked after tee-shirt sorting and the seating reservations and Stephen looked after far more than I can be arsed to list here! The truth is, I would enjoy this whole process far, far less without his involvement. Cheers, Lambsie!

As always, our exceptional tech crew – Gabe & Rob on sound, Ian on lights and stage manager Graham – did us proud. The new video screens also added a new dimension to proceedings.

The kitchen team, Henry, Tom and Lauren, were as awesome as ever and I would stand by my assertion that we have the best festival food anywhere! Ieuan, Shonagh and Lydia behind the bar kept everyone topped up throughout the festival with loads of laughs and surprisingly little swearing!

A big shout-out has to go to Paul and Miles for manning our little record shop and to everyone who brought stock to sell. The guys sold loads of vinyl, CDs and DVDs, raising an impressive £500 for the festival! We will carry on doing this, so do bring your surplus records!

Astrid - 'the merch fairy' - does so much more for us than sell the merch. She is an invaluable member of the team.

Tristan on the door made sure everything ran smoothly there, which can be a bit of a bu**er of a job when you'd rather be on the inside, watching the bands!

Thanks also to t'other Graham, who makes sure that the bands flying in arrive and get home OK!

Finally, to every musician and to every music lover who attended, these festivals are for you and would be nothing without you. Thank you for being there 🙏
