Four hour job done.

A you hear that wind? Thank goodness I finished when I did!

A few things were starting to fly!

I had ask the organisers to add a side to my gazebo after they me gust of wind nearly ruined a face paint design. That was just on a little when is fringe went in the wet paint, when I moved my hand! Nightmare!

What organisers do not realise, when you are out in the open, with the gazebo with no sides, open to the elements. The gazebo can actually create a wind tunnel.

We had wind, we had hot sun, we had clouds and the rain, sun again and then wind!

My terms conditions actually say no events between the months of September through to April, so I would've been totally covered, should there have been any issues. Obviously I can tweak these if the weather is nice.

This video just shows where I was located, and how the wind was rattling around, but I was packed up and ready to go.

Lots of happy customers.

One Dad, commented and said it was like watching a magician work ❤️. He could not believe how quickly I executed my flowers. He said it's took you a second! Side face unicorns, with a rainbow three minutes. Detailed butterflies 3 to 3.5 minutes. No face I painted was any longer than four minutes. Not even the wind could stop me ❤️❤️❤️

Also there was a photographer there on behalf of the designer outlet I do work for. He was armed with release forms for photos. He confirmed to me what a nightmare it was to get parents to sign them! I know this to be true and I have said so many times that families in the Cotswolds, generally do not like having their children on social media. This is only going to get worse.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACE PAINTER

This was a very busy event yesterday. Queue was not too bad, but I was non stop. I really speeded up at the end to get everyone finished. At 3.45, I painted around 7 children with my usual designs.

One little 2 year old was covered in chalk on her face. I had to tell the grandparents that she wouldn't be able to have a face painted anyway because she wasn't free but I would paint her arm as long as it wasn't covered in chalk.

They nearly went for the wipes and I said no don't do that. I think they were pampers! I advised them that it's likely that wipes are culprit when a reaction occurs on the skin.

One parent quickly wiped sun cream on their child's face before they had their face painted and I had to advise them that they would need to wait at least another two children in for that to sink into the skin. The sunscreen creates a block for the paints and really hinders us to get it looking right.

I had the choice at this event to sit inside or outside but I do know they wanted me outside. The weather was fine but for the last two hours the sun came over to me and I could feel it on my shoulders and back. I should have probably moved inside but there was literally no time. I just wanted to get the job done.

The team they were really good though and was offering me drinks to keep hydrated. I think I managed to drink some tea, despite it being cold most of the time. I also had my thermos of water with me.

This little video shows me coming back to get my kit after having visited the toilet, which was very much needed.

As you can see if I'm just this little video it was a very busy event for a small town.

Apparently, the guests were saying there was no other face painters there which did surprise me a little. However this just shows how different the Cotswolds is to lots of other areas.

One Dad told me that the unicorn I painted on his little girl's face was one of the best face painting you've ever seen. He said he was at The Big Feastival last weekend and had to pay £20 for some simple glitter on her face. He said there was three face painting at the Disney+ stand (which I did actually quote for). However the company, didn't like the quote, even though I quoted very fairly for what it entails being at a festival. I wanted three face painters working very long days. This can be gruelling in face painters. Also did you see the weather last weekend at all the festivals 🙈🙈🙈🙈.

We also know that free face painting at festivals means very very long queue!

The Dad said that the queue for the free face painting was huge and it was only little designs.

I did try to explain to him that although I felt £20 was quite steep! The people who are charging, have to pay really high pitch fees to be at festivals such as this. This is also the trouble isn't it? The customer feels ripped off, but do not know all the costs behind the scenes. I feel it's even worse if you are a local artist in the area and then you were charging high prices. I doubt very much they're going to want to book you for a private event/party.

I painted at the Big Feastival for two years many years ago and even then the pitch fees were £450/£480. I remember back then I was charging £5 a face. It took a lot of faces to be painted before I recovered this cost. Then one day it rained, so this can reduce your income.

One year we were the only face painters there and I was told we had exclusivity. The next year, we assumed the same but there was about seven different face painting/glitter stalls 🙈🙈🙈. We were pitched in the Little Dudes Den. This was when Jamie Oliver also helped run it with Alex James from Blur the group - whose cheese farm it's on. I painted his kids.

So we did okay, despite the rain. However, they are such hard work. Back breaking hours!

Then I remembered the sales team who are called Taste. They came round with the booking form and asked us if we wanted to book again. They said if I booked there and then the price would stay the same otherwise it would go up. I said no thank you. I advised them that there were far too many other face painters and glitter artists all competing. We had also been named in there 'what's happening' brochure back then. So I said it was too risky as well. If somebody had an allergic reaction, we would be remembered for being in the booklet and could result in a claim. Also the risk of bad press! So for me this created a conflict of interest.

I was told a couple of years ago by a face painter that they asking over £1000 for four days 🙈. It did used to be 3 days but Friday a bit of a non starter.

NO THANK YOU!

Whilst I was busy yesterday, I still felt it was manageable and as mentioned above, I was the only face painter there. I was of course paid like I am for all face panting jobs I/we do. This is just how I prefer to work and working any other way in the Cotswolds just doesn't really work.

Getting in and getting out was a nightmare too. Looking for the stand, was like looking for a need in a haystack. No signal either to call anyone.

Wow this is a big statement from bouncy castle company.

It's also a trigger as I just had a lady cancel a booking with us because she'd also booked a bouncy castle company and they had told her that face paints weren't allowed.

This is grossly unfair on face painting companies.

We work at many parties which includes a bouncy castle and I've never ever had an issue with these companies allowing face paints to be used.

In fact we work with a very well-known bouncy castle company in Cheltenham and have done so for many years. They actually book us to help make their events truly enhanced.

I've just updated my website and it is now powered by Shopify.

This has given me so much more freedom than using my old WordPress version since 2012.

So many widgets and plug-ins to deal via there. So it's gone!

Also the guy who was looking after these things for me simply disappeared!

This is the problem when people say I use a developer, user designer. So many issues and delays come with these.

With this new website, I can add products if I want to sell them to my UK customers. This will give me more earning in capabilities in the future I hope.

I can add blogs and information that my potential customers or existing customers may find useful and to help make their events even more successful.

Please a take look.

To the ladies I've used before and some on many occasions as part of my team, I have added your images ❤️❤️❤️❤️.

We are better together ❤️

After the devastating floods in Nepal, if anyone can spare any cash at all here is the donation site.

I just want to say that I face painted at Imjin Barracks in Gloucestershire last month and this was for the Gurkhas. For anyone who knows their history, the Nepalese soldiers/unit were certainly fundamental in helping the UK win the war. Do you know they are still discussing their rights to full pensions.

They are truly lovely people. I saw them greeting not only me but their friends and their introductory words were Namaste 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Meaning: Divine recognition: It honors the divine light, spark, or soul inside another person

Oneness: It acknowledges that beneath outward differences, all people share the same inner spirit 🙏🙏🙏🙏

It's truly devastating what has happened. Their global impact on the world is less than 1%. Let that sink in.

This is the charity that Tamang (the sergeant) gave me

Well that was a interesting job to say the least 🙈🙈🙈.

We raced back from Devon yesterday, as I had a three hour job booked in. This job had not been without its problems.

I booked by a hi end concierge company who finds properties for events/mini breaks.

All booked in great! Then I received a WhatsApp message saying the client had changed their mind 🙈.

I reconfirmed THANKFULLY that my terms and conditions had been acknowledged and accepted and the booking was confirmed.

A little voice message came back, very polite but did say 'but my client did not receive any booking form'.

I then WhatsApped back by way of 'written' text. As per my terms and conditions there are no booking forms. This is all there is black and white etc, how easy it is to book etc but the terms will form the contract on confirmation.

Once all the details are given:

1. Date ✅

2. Timings ✅

3. Event address ✅

4. Invoice address ✅

5. Contact tel number ✅

6. Full name ✅

6. Email address ✅

7. Terms and conditions discussed and preferably in writing ✅

All vital information.

So what happens next?

I get my kit ready, and I drive 40 mins to get there. It's an area I paint at regularly, the beautiful Cotswolds. However it was throwing it down! ☔️🌧️🌂☔️💧🌧️🌂

I arrive and press all the buzzers possible. No answer 😬😱😰😨🙀

Now I am out in the countryside. Try calling my contact who booked us. Job paid for under my terms 🙏. At least two clear working days before event (unless otherwise agreed in writing) or a late fee msg be applied) 💷⏰🕣📆

No answer, no signal for her!

So I move away from gate which is no easy job on the long narrow driveway.

Pull over and call my husband. Not great reception but enough! I give him the phone number for my contact and ask him to call her and tell her of my situation. He rings back. Yes they are expecting you should be able to get in.

I see a car go up there to and I quickly reverse again (well I say quickly 🙈). Great gates are open! 🙌

The grounds are huge! I arrive at a house and position my car so I do not get blocked in! It looks quiet! No doorbell or knocker so I gently tap the glass. A lady answers. Hi I am here to do the face painting and i am at the correct place. Lady whispers. I have a sleeping baby and ohh are but it's in the barn.

Thankfully it's not raining but I like Mary Poppins with my kit bag and long folded umbrella 🌂🧳

Walk around and see two young boys playing fuse ball! I am in the games room. Somebody comes down and says he will let them know I am there, but I need to go upstairs. Now this is one fancy barn conversion 😵‍💫

A lady in an apron comes down and says there has been a miscommunication. I was cancelled 🙈🙈🙈. I explained I was cancelled as they head read my terms and conditions. The children were going to swim! My terms say no faces to be painted after swimming because of chemicals. Potential reactions ✅. I advised I could do arms instead ✅. Agreed.

Apparently the wife had not been advised by the husband that I had been reinstated 🙈.

Concierge team member horrified in having to tell me that I still was not required. "I am sure your payment will be fine"

A off I pop! Thinking, I know the payment is fine. It's been paid and even if it wasn't, I am safe in the knowledge that my terms are tight.

I get in my car leave a message for the team member of the concierge company to say they did not require me as she had messages saying that I hoped I got in ok 🙈🙈🙈.

I sent her a detailed message advising her of the situation. Just to clarify. She apologised profusely and said her she had also received an apology for the client (the husband) too which she showed me. Apologised that I also raced back from my vacation.

Moral of the story: Things occasionally go wrong and are fully out of your control. Even though the company say they offer a 'seamless service'.

I spent the evening with family instead and was comfortable that the payment was safe.

I now have two more peaceful days with family to enjoy and then it all starts again.

Invoicing, making bespoke palettes. Ordering, social media posting content, face painting jobs, tutorials, along side all the other day to day stuff.
