I’m so pleased with all the young artists who came to my workshop yesterday at Cheltenham Animal Shelter! 🎨✨

It was wonderful to see so many returning faces alongside some fantastic newcomers. Everyone did incredibly well, and it was such a joy to watch their focus and their creativity shine. Charlotte, I wish we could see your beautiful work in this picture.

I tell the children that it takes me 20-30+ hours of drawing to create a portrait. I am so impressed with your what these children did in just 2 and a half hours!

Thank you all for making it such a special session—I’m already looking forward to the next one! 💛

🐾 Children’s Dog Drawing Workshop: A Drawing Workshop for Young Animal Lovers! 🎨 Easter Holiday Session

Join us for a fun-filled and heartwarming art workshop at the Cheltenham Animal Shelter, specially designed for creative kids who love animals!

Our session begins with an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter, where children will meet some of the wonderful animals currently waiting for their forever homes. Along the way, they’ll learn about the work the shelter does and the importance of caring for animals in need.

After the tour, we’ll gather for a relaxed and inspiring drawing demonstration. Children will be introduced to pastel pencils and shown how to capture the unique personality of a canine friend through simple techniques in shape, colour, and texture.

Then it’s time for everyone to get creative! With guidance and encouragement, the children will all create their own colourful pastel portrait to take home — a perfect memento of a meaningful day.

No previous drawing experience is needed — just a love of animals and a willingness to have fun!

What’s included:
• Guided tour of Cheltenham Animal Shelter 🐶
• Friendly art demonstration using pastel pencils ✏️
• Drawing time with support from an experienced artist 🎨
• All materials provided – just bring your imagination!
• Suitable for ages 8-14

We drew the beautiful Ripley yesterday at the Children’s Dog Drawing Workshop at Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

Ripley is currently looking for her forever home. She is only 1 so would make a lovely addition to someone’s family.

I take around 20-30 hours or more to draw a portrait and the children had only 2.5 hours! Here are some examples of what the children produced.

A smaller portrait completed for Christmas last year. This is how terrible my social media updating has been as it is 8 months out of date!

I was lucky as I got to meet Farley and take pictures of him (I always include this service if local). Such a lucky boy as he lives with his mini doppelgänger Winter and two owners who have owned and loved a handful of very lucky Ex Racing Greyhounds now.

The black background was requested and I think it works well adding depth and drama.

It was a joy drawing Martha. 🖤🤍 💛🩶

Trying to get at once the vibrancy and the subtlety of her colour was a challenge. I opted for coloured pencil which always takes me so much longer so I really need to thank the client for their patience!

A groups of friends joined together to buy this portrait for her to be remembered by. I hope it brings back many happy memories. (Best viewed fully open)

Archie was an adored, unique dog. It was a real pleasure capturing him. 🖤 🤎 🤍

As I drew him, I could see what kind eyes he had. A Staffie and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Cross, I can just imagine what a softie he must have been.

I didn’t take a picture of the very end result so this is before the end tweaks… I was so anxious to get the picture done before leaving to go on the trip when it would be delivered. It was lovely being there when the picture was gifted to see the emotion of that moment.
