This is Davidโs fifth one-man show at SPRING CHELTENHAM with work that continues to explore the relationship between text, shape, texture and colour.โฃ
โฃ
As an inveterate re-user and recycler of materials ( he is also an avid gardener and committed compost maker ) David constructs many of these collage pieces by piecing corrugated cardboard together in a series of cross directional layers.โฃ
This provides a lightness and strength to the work and offers the possibility of creating Irregularly formed boards, as opposed to the traditional rectangle.โฃ
โฃ
Thereโs a delightful freedom and flexibility here, together with the singular challenge of organising paper collage across and over an uneven format.โฃ
For example, the board is easily cut and objects can be set into the surface.โฃ
โฃ
David also enjoys adding small attachments as projections, as extensions that emerge from the overall shapes, taking the work in a more three-dimensional, sculptural directionโฃ
