Its been a while since our last event or post, so a quick update from me (Danny)!
With the online world saturated with content, and also due to outside pressures, we have not had any events for a little while. This is partly so that we can try to form a medium-term plan for how MAC fits into the new world, and we cannot pretend it will be anything but a new world after the end of 'lockdown'.
Theatre, and the arts generally, are in a tight spot and one which is not likely to improve even in the near to mid post-Covid world. There is a school of thought that says that new writing, experimental work and so-called 'boundary pushing' works are going to suffer significantly, even catastrophically. MAC fits into the very thin end of the wedge on this, but I do believe we will face a steep, uphill struggle moving forwards.
Community theatre will be tested like never before in modern times and I regret to say that I do not personally foresee all of our fellow local companies surviving in the coming months and years, though I hope I am wrong. We will need to learn to work together, pool resources and support each other in a way we have not seen for a long time.
This is why in the coming weeks I intend to, with Ian and Laura, agree and publish a strategy and plan for how MAC can continue to support new writers in the near and far community, but also be relevant in the new reality with which we are confronted.
I hope at some point soon to hold a 'Town Hall' type online meeting so that those who have been involved with MAC in the past, and even those that have not, can hear our thoughts and let us know theirs and indeed any ideas they may have.
Keep staying safe and you'll hear from us soon.
Danny
