Chelmsford MTG Club

Chelmsford MTG Club Chelmsford MTG Club is the best place in Chelmsford to meet up and play Magic The Gathering. The club has an 18+ age policy. Free parking too.

We meet Monday nights @ 7.30pm, The Queen’s Head, 30 Lower Anchor Street, Chelmsford, CM2 0AS. We play various formats of MTG and it's free to play unless we are drafting or having a tournament. House Standard rules: Maximum 10 rares and 20 uncommons in the deck, you can have more in the sideboard. Alternatively you can use a current MTG event deck.

It's been almost seven years since the Chelmsford MTG Club started but we have finally opened our last pack.

I started the club as a way to play MTG every week and that has become increasingly difficult over the past year.

So as of now, the club has ceased to be and I will be playing my MTG either at Xtreme Trades (Colchester) or Counter Culture Games (Chelmsford) on Friday nights.

Thanks to everyone who has attended the club over the previous six years, and made the club a great place to place MTG.

With the holiday season upon us, and the next draft set release more 6 weeks away, it's time to shut the club down until the new year.

I will aim to start running events again on Monday 6th January 2020.

To all the magic players who have attended the CMTGC, present and past, have a great Christmas and a happy and successful 2020.

This Monday see the first Throne of Eldraine draft event and also some changes to prizes and entry.

Drafts are still £10 if you need boosters, but are now £1 if you bring your own boosters. The reason is we are reverting back to our old prize structure, which awards one pack per three players to the best finishers based on Wizards Event Reporter (WER). It basically means the most you can win is a single booster rather than three, which also helps keep everything friendly and relaxed.

Next change is another blast from the past. If we get 8+ players then we will blind draft a booster pack at the end of the event, with the winner getting first dibs and then second, third etc. It's just a bit of fun and I can't quite remember why we stopped doing it :)

Anyway, hope to see you on Monday for some grim fairytale fun.

Fantastic cube night yesterday, thanks again to Martin Harre for bringing the cardboard!

Martin went 3-0, and I can't wait for a rematch, now I know a little better how to draft his retirement cube.

Hopefully next Monday with be a Throne Draft, price TBC.
