Look over there. Now look over there.
There’s loads of otters everywhere!

I’ve been posting our new binoculars videos like this on one TikTok recently, where I get more engagement despite having 5% of the followers. But I quite liked this one - and it took absolutely ages to make - so am posting it here too. Hope you like it and don’t get too scared at the end.

A.I. can do it before you can blink.
But I love drawing (so let me know what you think).

I found this picture - by a very talented, now not-so-little girl called Liberty - that she drew for me 7 or 8 years ago. Anyway, I remember thinking I must do something with it at the time, but never managed to. Well, here I am posting my own ‘drawn’ version of it.
Based on my recent frog experiments (if you saw the posts, you’ll know what I mean), I loved the effect of gouache paint with coloured crayons on top, and certainly based on the comments at the time, the coloured pencil version also seemed quite popular. (These pencils, by the way, are from the Faber-Castell Polychromos range, which work really nicely, I think.)
Anyway, more of this stuff to come, because the process of making this type of art is so much more fulfilling than sticking a few prompts in.
See you soon everyone.

Look what I spotted on that fallen down tree.
But I can’t quite tell what it’s supposed to be.
Any ideas anyone?

Another five frogs, so that makes ten.
(I won’t be using those pastels again.)

I genuinely love how many people commented on the last post, even if the overall views were low. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts about which frog picture you liked most. It seems the coloured pencils were the most popular, but before I move onto another creature, I loved the whole process so much, that I’ve created five more. Do tell me what you think.

If you’re interested in the materials I used…
- The first was a new graphite pencil drawing, which included my trusty Rotring ‘Tikky’ pencils.
- Next is a random collection of Sharpie pens, colouring pencils and Posca pens.
- The third one is another slightly unusual selection of materials including some gouache paint, various colouring pencils, and an acrylic pen.
- Number 4 was a bit of a disaster in which I used some old oil pastels I found at the bottom of a drawer. (I’ve probably owned some of those for over 40 years, and I wasn’t especially bothered about this one, so I think I’ll put them back!)
- And finally, I tried something completely different: a wooden board with a collage made out of a green masking tape called ‘Frog Tape’ (apt, right?) - which I’m sure lots of my UK followers will know of - plus acrylic paint and acrylic pens.

If you’ve got this far and can let me know your fave, again, it’s really going to help me decide what to make in future.
Huge thanks, everyone. See you soon. Tom.

I’ve ditched the computer for pencil and ink. Swipe through them all - let me know what you think!

Hi everyone. As many of you know, I’ve spent the past few months, when I can at least, doing oil paintings. But blimey, they take ages.
So, last weekend, I made a decision to experiment with a whole load of different techniques, based on just one drawing, Dom’s frog on a leaf. I set about using anything I could find around the house - pencils, fine liners, acrylic pens, even gouache paint. I also set myself a target of spending no longer than two hours on each one - rather than the 100 hours it can take for an oil painting.

And I figured that if you, my wonderful followers, like them, then I’ll do more. I’m posting the first five here, with another five to come. (Remember they were quick experiments, so some have come out looking better than others.)

Anyway - I’d really appreciate it if you let me know in the comments which you like best. I’d genuinely love to know what style is most popular so I can do more of those in future. Perhaps with a bit more time and effort that is.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate it.

On - and of course, I’m not completely ditched the computer. Just for a bit.

Now that I’ve basically finished its feet,
I think our honse is close to complete.

Of course, I could continue tinkering forever, but thought I might share it today anyway.
As you can see, I added a painted version of Bea’s original drawing at the top.
What do you think?

I’ve spotted a lot of rhinos before.
I haven’t seen many with two legs not four.
__
Actually, that’s not entirely true, because most of the rhinos I’ve spotted have only got two legs!
Anyway - I received this brilliant drawing by someone called , but it was so long ago that it looks like the account no longer exists. If you happen to know who they are, do let me know, and I’ll send them the Photoshopped version of the rhino.
My next update will be painting related, so look out for that. See you soon everyone.

The algo needs feeding, so here’s my response…
A simple WIP video - painting the ‘honse’.
__
Not sure if I really needed to start with a rhyme - but anyway - I made the point recently that I’m going to be sharing more of my paintings and, well, I guess a bit more about my process. The engagement on my posts has dropped through the floor, but that’s because Reels are mainly shared with non-followers, and frankly this video was designed for people who want to see it, not people who don’t (obviously). So, I’m sorry if you miss this, but that’s exactly how Instagram wants it to be, unfortunately.

Anyway - hope you like how my painting of the honse by Beatrice is shaping up. I’ll do more of these videos in future, if the small number of people who do see this likes it. Do drop a note in the comments if so. Lovely. Thanks everyone.
