As you may know, West End Studios are closing forever in a few weeks. 32 years of history comes to an end. Today I was working on tearing down the partitions that defined each artist's space and felt inspired to write this...

killing history

I wield the red teeth
the iron hooks
and the bars
throw body parts
at the silent panels
of a thirty year history

their nails
scream quietly
at each blow
fibres rip and parts collapse
wholeness becomes jigsaw
never to be made
whole again

dust fills the air
expectations of secrets
hidden in the long unseen
confounded
by troves of dirt
where I found
only an empty tube

sacred spaces
meditation creation cells
torn down
lost forever
leaving a cluttered hall
each artist's possessions
piled like refugee's suitcases
waiting for the tide
destination unknown

This is Stephen Turner and myself at WestEnd Studios . With dear John Robinson's passing in November 2018 it was the end of an era . These pics of Steve and myself must go back about 18 years. However the studio is now more vibrant than ever and we have a great new group of artists. I'm not there as much as I would like as I'm busy organising workshops on Lesvos , these have a Byzantine theme and this spring we are adding a new workshops , learning the principles of mosaic as used in Ravenna during the 6 th century . If anyone is interested in this workshop in a beautiful mountain village for 8 days in May you can email me at [email protected]
