Confession time: I missed Day 50... and here is why. 🛠️📸

Day 51.

If you’ve been following my Photo-A-Day challenge, you might have noticed I went a little quiet yesterday. I’d love to tell you it’s because I was out shooting a glamorous sunset wedding, but the reality is a bit different!

A lot of you might not know this, but photography isn't my full-time job (yet!). By day, I’m a Maintenance Engineer at Ibis Hotels.

Yesterday was just one of those days where the day job took over, the tools were out, and the camera had to stay in the bag. Balancing a full-time job with a growing photography business is a massive juggle, but it’s a road I am more than happy to be on.

My ultimate dream is to make this my full-time career. Every wedding I shoot, every landscape I edit, and every photo I post here is a step further down that path.

So, apologies for missing Day 50, but we are back on track for Day 51! Thank you to everyone who supports this page, likes these posts, and helps me build this dream one photo at a time.
Question:
Is anyone else out there juggling a day job with a side hustle or passion project? Let me know below, I’d love to hear what you're working toward! 👇

The art of being invisible. 🦌🤫
Day 48.

People often ask how wildlife photography helps with weddings. This photo is the answer.

To get a shot like this, you can’t run around directing people or moving lights. You have to be still, quiet, and blend into the background. You have to wait for the moment to happen naturally.

It’s the exact same approach I take during a wedding ceremony or the speeches.
My goal is to capture the emotion without becoming a distraction. If I can get close enough to a deer to capture this detail without spooking it, I can definitely capture your guests laughing without them realizing I’m there!

When it comes to photography, do you prefer:
Posed portraits? 📸
Or natural, candid moments? 🍃
(I think you can guess my answer!)

So... did anyone have a particularly good weekend? 💍😉

Day 47.

Now that the Valentine’s weekend is over, I have a feeling there might be a few shiny new rings out there today!
A massive congratulations if you got engaged this weekend. It’s such an exciting bubble to be in.

My advice? Don't rush into the admin of wedding planning just yet. Take a week to just enjoy the news before you start worrying about spreadsheets and guest lists.

(But when you are ready to talk photos... you know where I am!)

Caught a break in the clouds. ⛅️🌧️

Day 46. Sunday in Ashbourne.

The weather has been all over the place this weekend—wind, rain, and grey skies. But then, just for a moment, the clouds broke and gave us this perfect window of sunshine.

You have to move fast to enjoy it in February!

It wasn't warm, but seeing that blue sky hit the fields was enough to lift the mood before the next downpour rolled in.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." 🌧️💃🌈

Day 44. Friday vibes.

I took this photo sown Southsea during lockdown, and every time I look at it, that quote comes to mind.

As a photographer (especially in the UK!), I live by this philosophy. We can’t control the weather. We can’t control the tides. And on a wedding day, we can’t control if the timeline runs late or if the skies open up.

But we can control how we react to it.

Some of my favourite photos and best memories have come from the moments where things didn't go "perfectly," but we just embraced the chaos and found the beauty in it anyway.
Here is your Friday reminder that a little bit of rain often leads to the best views.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Patience is everything. 🐦🌿

Day 43.
Sometimes the best therapy is just sitting in the garden (or the park) with a long lens, waiting for these little guys to show up.

Photographing wildlife is a completely different discipline to photographing people. You can't direct them, you can't ask them to "do that again," and they definitely don't care about your lighting setup.

You just have to be still, wait, and be ready.
It’s the perfect way to slow down before the weekend rush kicks in.

Do you have a favourite garden visitor?
