So, it's quite sad really.

We are preparing for the last weekend of the Artists Open Houses at 44 Florence Road.

We have everything crossed for great weather, lots of visitors and lots of sales so we can all do a happy dance this Bank Holiday Weekend.

As always great thanks to Emily and Chris for all you do to allow this Open House to happen!! We promise to help you put all the furniture back.

Yikes, the Open house starts tomorrow!

I’m Emily Beaumont the host at Emily Boo & Friends at Number 44 - Open House - Brighton and I learnt the wonderful craft of upholstery at The Cass, part of London Metropolitan University under the watchful eye and huge skill of a fourth generation upholsterer.
After 6 years of part-time study I was awarded a distinction for my Diploma from the AMUSF, so years of hard work definitely paid off! Whilst there I also discovered the much forgotten art of hand-tailored lampshades through the amazing skill of Angela Constantinou. I'm now based in Brighton & Hove, a vibrant city which is a constant source of inspiration to me.
It has been a huge learning curve but one I feel very lucky to have been able to do. It is immensely satisfying to be able to work creatively with my hands using traditional tools, materials and methods.
We live in a fast paced world and it is really nice to see what amazing things can be achieved with a bit of time.
My chairs can be described as traditionally modern reinventing beautifully made vintage frames into a chair that fits in today’s modern world. They are chairs that need to be seen and noticed as well as being gorgeously comfortable to sit on.
Upholstery is a time-consuming business, done properly, but I try to have chairs available for sale as often as possible, so do please check back regularly or subscribe to be first to hear about the arrival of new statement chairs. Or, if you have a chair that could just do with a bit of love and attention please let me know I’d be very happy to help bring it back to life.

Frances has established a strong reputation as a contemporary artist working in a broadly surrealist tradition.

Her work can best be described as a series of fascinating dreamscapes exquisitely created in three-dimensional collage. Each piece is like a small theatre set which plays with space and perspective to draw the viewer into the curious worlds I create. The subject matter varies from the domestic to the industrial to the natural but there are recurrent themes throughout the work. Notably there is always a suggestion of parallel realities – it might be a juxtaposition of what is considered ‘real’ and what is imagined or desired or the conflict between the façade and what might be really occurring behind it. However the meanings are not prescriptive and it is for the viewer to contemplate and reflect upon these scenarios.
