The parish church of St John the Evangelist

31/01/2022

On Sunday 6th February it is the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Accession to the throne. It is also the 70th anniversary of the death of the Queen’s father, King George VI. Although the main celebrations for the Jubilee are not until June, it is important that it should not go unnoticed. Therefore to mark the occasion the ringers at St John Caterham will be ringing the bells of St John’s (in the Valley) immediately after the Sunday service, from about 11.10 for around 20 minutes. In addition later in the afternoon from 5pm they will ring a quarter peal (lasting about 45 minutes). The St George’s flag will also be raised on the tower. You are most welcome to come and listen to the ringing. David Dibbs will be playing "March for a pageant" by Eric Thiman and "England's glory" by Nigel Ogden at the 10 a.m. service which is livestreamed. On Sunday Jan 16 at 10 a.m. the choir of St John Caterham Valley will be singing an unusual carol "Twas in the moon of wintertime". This is an arrangement of a French tune adapted by missionaries for the Huron tribes. It can be accompanied by chimebars. We do have a set (xylophone) but nobody to play them. Hopefully we will find somebody before next Christmas. We usually livestream on FaFacebook
