Come here and explore what ancient temperate rainforests look and feel like! And, breath...

How far do you have to travel to visit a rainforest? Thousands of miles perhaps? Actually, no - because we have rainforests here in the GSA Biosphere, and thought we'd tell you all about them as part of our celebrations! Our rainforests are temperate, rather than tropical, and like many of our native habitats face continual challenges from land use demands, climate change, and human activity. The map you see below was generously shared with us for this infographic by The Lost Rainforests of Britain (linked below). More than a fifth of the UK's land area could support a rainforest ecosystem but currently only 1% of the country has this type of cover. The map below shows both past and potential - where these special forests so rich in life should and could grow.

If you do want to visit a rainforest for yourself - we recommend -wood-of-cree

It is a nice feeling when a lengthy process reaches a point of fruition, and, as is the way of art, leads on to the next step.

David has spent lots of hours patiently carving his relief block, and he made a waterbased ink proof today to help inform the final cuts he wants to make.

Printmaking can be very satisfying, in a deferred gratification sort of way!

We also support professional development for ambitious artists with additional support needs.
Today David brought his recent paintings to a creative activity session to help us discuss the next steps for development, which we can do despite him being unable to move his jaw much, he uses a 'talking' app on his phone which has a nifty wrist-mount.

David has already been part of three group exhibitions as part of the local 'D&G Innovation Project' (which is also led by Cate, the Corn Mill Studio director) and now he is making a new body of work which could mean he has enough for a solo exhibition.
Very exciting!!
