SongWave Choir

SongWave Choir SongWave is a community choir of around 55 based in Castle Douglas. We sing for the fun of singing.

Under the direction of our excellent musical director, Kate Howard, we sing mainly four part harmony songs, unaccompanied, and in a variety of languages and styles and without the aid of files to better communicate with our audiences. Known for our enthusiasm and joy of singing many of us were formerly members of the well known and well loved Feral Choir but were relaunched as SongWave in Septembe

r 2021 following the departure of former musical director Ali Burns. We have already had our first outing with sister choir Cairn Chorus to herald the recent visit of Storm to Dumfries.

‘There’s something about singing in a group that’s just magic’ - quote from the recent choir survey.

This is why we have Kate!

Community choirs should absolutely be welcoming, collaborative and member-focused. That does not mean they should be run like a permanent constitutional convention.

Shared from Rose, a choir member. As it was recorded during covid there's no dancing but it's a beautiful song to listen to.

This video is dedicated to all those who raised their hands to say “Thuma Mina” (Send me), and courageously took up position in the frontlines to fight again...

Pete Morton is a singer and entertainer who is often referred to as an old time troubadour. He delivers an unruly freewheeling mix of storytelling, comedy and song that weaves its way around the folk tradition. His current show 'The Ghost of a Sailor's talking blues' is a joyful ramble through time (not necessarily in the right order), in the style of the talking blues, as well as unleashing popular singalong chorus from the last 400 years. Booking is essential as space is limited.

It’s 10 years old but not a lot will have changed, apart from a few of those singing being no longer with us.

When locals gather to sing Christmas carols at the Blue Ball Inn pub in this tiny village, you won't hear "Joy to the World" or "Silent Night."
