Carnoustie Rocks

Carnoustie Rocks Crafting meets geocaching. Create rock art then hide it somewhere for others to find. When you find a rock post a photo online. If you love it keep it.

Or re-hide it, replace with your own rock art, or hide somewhere new for someone else to find.

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3….. Hello everyone!! How have you all been? Just sharing a little post for The Book House library in Ravensby Road 📚

🎅 🎵 🎄 it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…in the Book House. There are lots of Christmas books for kids & adults. And we received a lovely donation of books this week which we will be adding in the new year 🎉 📚

An update on the Carnoustie caterpillar. Let’s hope they find somewhere new for it very soon 💕 🐛 🎨 ☀️

The time has come for Carnoustie’s stone caterpillar to prepare for the next stage in its life cycle.

On Sunday 20th of September members of Carnoustie Community Council will collect the stones that make up the caterpillar and move them to storage. While they are stored we will give them a coat of varnish to protect them. In the meantime we’re working on a plan to have them temporarily displayed until they are ready to be moved to their final home. Any stones that no longer have any paint on them will be returned to the beach.

If you painted a stone then the Community Council would like to give you the opportunity to touch up or repaint it especially if it is looking a bit weather beaten. If you would like to do this then please collect your stone before the 20th. Details of where refreshed stones can be dropped off will be provided at a later date.

If you would like to add a new stone or one you haven't yet had a chance to add then please do so by the 20th.

We are exploring various options for the final location of the caterpillar and also looking at securing funding to allow this to take place. As soon as we have a few options we will put up a poll and let you all vote to decide which you prefer. We think it is important that you, the owner of the stones, get that choice.

Thanks

Carnoustie Community Council

The Sprites were out for a cycle last night & added some rocks to the Carnoustie Caterpillar 🐛

Some are ones we’ve painted over the years & some were painted by others for the art trail we did for The Open in 2018. Not all of them were hidden afterwards & they had been used when chief rocks sprite has given talks to local groups.

Since we won’t be giving any talks for a while 🙁 we thought we’d give them their turn in the sun ☀️ 😃 🎨 🐧 🐞

Chief Rocks sprite thought it was time to dust down her trusty POSCA pens & create some new painted rocks to brighten up the front garden & hopefully create some smiles during these difficult times 🎨 🐧 🐞 🧚‍♀️ 🌈

A few days ago we mentioned (very briefly) not going out & hiding rocks.

Because of the current situation regarding Coronavirus we would advise people NOT to go out hiding/looking for rocks. Information suggests that Covid 19 (Coronavirus) can live on surfaces for a number of days so we should all be mindful that we don’t further its spread.

Painting rocks however, is still very much OK!! It is a great way to be creative, to relax & have fun. We recommend though that you always wash your rocks & your hands with soap & water before painting them 🧼 🧽 🎨 You can hide them in your garden or put at your front doorstep to brighten it up 🐞🌺 🐧

Let's focus on creating and sharing rock painting inspiration to help entertain adults and children and keep us all positive during this time.

Please post pictures of your painted rocks or anything else creative that you are doing as we are looking forward to seeing your creations.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak I have made the difficult decision to urge all project members to share their kindness rocks virtually rather than physically in your communities. Our world needs kindness now more than ever, however I want to ensure that everyone stays safe & there continues to be many unknowns in the spreading of this virus.
Painting kindness rocks is a beautiful way to express to others how much you care and it is a form of art therapy for the giver. Continue to create your kindness and post it on your social channels and tag us as I will share everyone’s rocks each day in our feed! Your kindness matters🙏🏻 May you & your families stay safe and at peace during these uncertain times❤️ with much love to you all- Megan

At this time of year the Carnoustie Rocks Sprites come out of hibernation, but the world we’ve woken up to is a bit different this year. As we can’t paint & hide rocks at this time (more about that later) we thought we could help by sharing important information. Here’s the home learning timetable for today for Carnoustie High School kids!! Parents, you can thank us later 😉

Hello everyone 👋 we’ve been very quiet at Carnoustie Rocks HQ for a while as we’re sadly don’t get enough time to paint & get out & about hiding rocks these days 🙁

Work & own wee business & 2nd year homework & life seems to get in the way & *whispers* I’ve gone to the dark side - crocheting 🧶😄

But we saw wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & share this fab story! Hopefully these painted rocks will bring some Christmas cheer!! 🎨🎄🌟

Earls Hall Baptist Church in Essex are encouraging those that find them to post on social media.

We’re almost 1 year old!!

We can’t believe Carnoustie Rocks is coming up for it’s 1st birthday!!! We have had such an amazing year, Penny the Penguin going to Antarctica, our project with NHS Tayside which was shortlisted for an award and now our Carnoostival Rocks Art Trail!! We can’t wait to see what happens in year 2!! Geocaching meets crafting!!

This group is about painting rocks and creating smiles, with kids and adults creating & hiding rocks in & around Carnoustie for others to find. It is fun way to try something new, get out & about with the family, spread joy & happiness & create a sense of community. If you like what you find you can keep it. Or replace them with your own painted rock art. You can also re-hide the rocks somewhere new, it’s completely up to you 😀 & please get in touch to show us what you’ve found!! You can write your name and #CarnoustieRocks on the back so people can find us here, on Twitter & on Instagram. Have fun and please remember to post up pictures 😀 This page can be used to - show us your rocks painted. - let us know where you're going to hide them. - show us a rock that you've found. - say where you've re-hidden a rock that you've found. - anything else rock related.

THERE ARE JUST 4 points to follow:

1. Please source your rocks responsibly....taking rocks from beaches can cause erosion & environmental damage...please try to buy DIY stores, craft stores sell rocks,Home Bargains have some nice little decorative ones for 49p which are great to use if you boil them first 😀 or even ones from your garden (it’s how we started 😄)
