A quick update about our upcoming events at St Mary's Church.

On Tue 27 Oct we host the marvellous Robert Lloyd Parry when he'll perform two of M R James's most compelling stories: Lost Hearts and A Warning to the Curious. If you've never seen Robert, you're in for a treat! Tickets are £15 from the website.

Skipping ahead to Thu 17 December, we're thrilled to be welcoming Adam Z Robinson to the stage with his acclaimed performance of 'A Christmas Carol'. We've already sold two-thirds of our ticket allocation and the show is two months away! If you want to see this, we'd recommending booking as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. Again, tickets are just £15.

There'll be a pop-up bar at both events.

So it begins...

We're finalising arrangements for Illuminate 2027 and have some amazing speakers, performers, films, workshops and family fun to share with you!

We're updating the website daily with new events and information, so please stop by and have a look: https://illuminate.kirkbylonsdale.org/.

As in previous years, tickets to individual events will go on sale to the general public at the beginning of December - We'll remind you of the date nearer to the time.

BUT Festival passes are on sale NOW. Costing just £49 (no booking fee), the pass gives you free access to every event on the programme - equal to over £200-worth of entertainment. Pass holders will also get priority booking to events - you'll get a full week to book your free tickets before general release (Patrick Grant aficionados, take note!).

We'll release more information over the next few weeks and should have full programme details by December. If you've experienced the magic of Illuminate before, you'll know what a treat we have in store; if you haven't, we can't wait to share it all with you!

We're inviting everyone in KL and beyond (age 16+) to attend a screening of this important information film on Wed 30 Sep at the Lunesdale Hall.

The UK faces a growing climate and nature emergency. Yet most people have never been fully briefed on what it means for our lives, our economy and our future. In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster. That evidence is now on the public record.

The screening will be followed by a structured discussion to allow people to process what they have heard and find ways to engage positively around solutions in their local community. There will also be tea/coffee and other refreshments.

Fancy a fun night out? Join us for our first event of the AW season with the Jake Leg Jug Band on Fri 25 September!

Playing a mix of ragtime, blues and gospel, this lively act will get toes tapping from the opening bars. We're planning to arrange seating in cabaret style and there'll be space to dance, too. We've restocked the pop-up bar and we're raring to go.

Ticket cost just £15 from https://stmarysevents.kirkbylonsdale.org/event/the-jake-leg-jug-band/

OK, so I appreciate it's still officially summer, but...

We're hosting an acclaimed production of Charles Dickens's classic work: A Christmas Carol on Thursday 17 December at St Mary's Church and we don't want anyone to miss out!

Adapted and performed by Adam Z. Robinson in his inimitable style, this performance teases out the gothic aspects, presenting Dickens’s remarkable story as you’ve never seen it before - by turns hair-raising, thrilling and heartwarming.

Tickets are on sale now - just £15 - and we're expecting this event to be incredibly popular, so are recommending people book as soon as possible.

St Mary's Church and the Lunesdale Hall Committee are hosting a screening of an important film - the People's Emergency Briefing - on Wed 30 Sep at 7pm at the Lunesdale Hall. https://www.nebriefing.org/the-film

We're inviting everyone over the age of 16 to attend this event and participate in a discussion afterwards.

It's FREE to attend. Tickets are available from https://stmarysevents.kirkbylonsdale.org/event/peoples-emergency-briefing/ if you want to be sure of a place or you can turn up on the night. I'll post again if tickets are running low.

Please do come. At next year's Illuminate festival, we'll be staging a panel discussion with climate change expert Mike Berners-Lee, renewable energy researcher, Professor Alona Armstrong and local MP Lizzi Collinge. We hope that this screening will provide some all-important context for the Illuminate event and will act as a prompt for wider discussions.

We're excited to open our AW26 season with The Jake Leg Jug Band on Friday 25 September.

This lively band recreates the authentic sounds of 1920s and 20s America - jazz, blues, ragtime and gospel. Songs of murder, betrayal, gambling, liquor and redemption.

A vibrant live show that guarantees old-fashioned feel-good entertainment, transporting the audience back in time to the prohibition era, with a sound and look refined from 14 years on the road, performing nearly 800 gigs, releasing 10 albums and receiving airplay on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz FM.
