❓WHAT IS - - - ?

We have just launched a new mini series.

Part video essay. Part research diary. Part creative reflection.
Across the series we’ll be exploring immersion in the arts and the ideas that sit closely to the work we make at yello brick.

In episode one we ask a BIG question:
What is Immersive Theatre?

Tracing the relationship between audience and performance from ritual and classical theatre through to immersive experiences today.

The series will explore theatre, games, play, participation, immersion and agency and how audiences have gradually moved from watching stories to stepping inside them.

Episode one is now live on YouTube - https://youtu.be/JvKWL4Sd6qk?si=I_8QKAaKlnAq9HCP

We’ve recently been working with Jenny Kidd and Bethan Jones from Cardiff University and Eva Nieto McAvoy from King’s College London, on the Responsible AI Afterlives Workbook.

Artificial Intelligence is reshaping how cultural heritage organisations work with collections and engage with visitors. AI afterlives” describes the use of AI to animate or extend historical material, from deepfake historical figures giving museum tours to chatbots and AI-curated relics.

The workbook has been developed as a practical resource for organisations exploring this emerging area. It’s designed to support decisions around whether to create AI afterlives and how to approach them in ways that reflect values, practice and communities.

This workbook has been produced with support from the Leverhulme Trust the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council, Cardiff University and King's College London

🎙CRAFTED REALITY - Season 2 Episode 2

This time, we’re stepping inside Gentle Gathering - our evolving immersive dining project exploring connection, conversation and the gentle presence of AI within shared space.

Blending food, storytelling and facilitation, Gentle Gathering is built through experimentation and listening. With each prototype, new questions emerge:
- What helps people feel comfortable enough to share?
- How can technology sit softly alongside human interaction?
- And what happens when an experience is designed to be felt rather than performed?

In this episode, we reflect on the journey so far - the ideas, iterations and small moments that continue to shape what Gentle Gathering is becoming.

PLAYBACK | Day 24 -The One Where We Roll the Dice

24 episodes in 24 days.

And here we are - the final day of PLAYBACK.

For Day 24, we’re joined by Laura Jeffs - theatre maker, performer and workshop facilitator and also one half of , a South Wales–based theatre company known for creating playful, interactive work that looks at the world from delightfully unconventional angles.

In this episode, we dive into Laura’s creative process, the joy and complexity of interactive theatre, and her love of Dungeons & Dragons, world-building and collaborative play. We also talk about our recent collaboration on Chronicles of the Unknown - an experience where RPG meets theatre and audiences step directly into the story.

It feels like a fitting way to end this series: talking about play, participation, imagination and the worlds we build together.

PLAYBACK | Day 23 - The One Where Stories Find Their Place

24 episodes in 24 days.

PLAYBACK continues, but we are nearly at the end now.

For Day 23, we’re joined by Laura Cotton, Head of Development at World Productions (Wales), where she’s building a slate of ambitious drama set and shot in Wales.

Laura joined World Productions in April 2020 and has since been championing bold, character-led stories rooted in place. Most recently, she worked closely with writer Helen Walsh, executive producing The Gathering - a compelling whodunnit for Channel 4.

Her career spans the full breadth of TV drama, from script editing the award-winning Being Human to nurturing emerging writers through Channel 4 schemes like Coming Up and 4Stories.

In this episode, we talk about Laura’s journey from floor runner to Head of Development, what really happens behind the scenes of TV drama, and the craft of shaping stories that feel authentic, ambitious and deeply connected to where they’re made.

PLAYBACK | Day 22 - The One Where We Talk About AI

24 episodes in 24 days.

For Day 22, we’re continuing our conversation with Robin Moore - Creative Technologist and Director of SHWSH Ltd

In this second part, we turn our focus to AI as a creative tool. We talk openly about the opportunities it presents, the tensions it raises and what it really means to collaborate with a machine as part of a creative process.

Our conversation explores how emerging technologies are reshaping storytelling - not just in terms of tools and formats, but in how ideas are generated, tested and shared.

24 episodes in 24 days.

Day 21, we’re joined by Robin Moore - Creative Technologist and Director of SHWSH Ltd, an innovation consultancy working with artists, creatives, production companies and broadcasters.

PLAYBACK | Day 20 - The One Where We Wear Many Hats

24 episodes in 24 days.

It's Day 20 of our playback series, and we go back in time to when we chatted with - a creative who comfortably moves between digital worlds and live performance.

Danny’s career spans comedy ASMR on YouTube, production stage management for traditional theatre and hands-on work across immersive and non-traditional experiences. In this episode, we talk about his creative process, the joy of making things with your hands and what it really means to wear multiple roles when you’re building work across formats.
