It’s with a heavy heart that I share the decision to close Dre Twt St Clears in the coming months.
We opened our doors in 2019, just 9 months before COVID hit. As a newly established business, we didn’t qualify for most grants, and the strict 2-meter rules meant we were forced to close for nearly 2 years. During that time, I even started another business to do everything I could to keep Dre Twt alive.
When we finally reopened, the cost-of-living crisis hit. Overheads increased, fuel prices skyrocketed, and schools struggled to afford coach fees, reducing out school visits drastically. On top of that, we’ve seen a reduction in visits overall, what would normally be our busy periods have dropped by more than half, as people understandably tighten their spending.
I poured more of my own savings into finding a solution, which led to the creation of our mobile role-play concept, a solution that helped us break even for a while, but this also meant working even harder for the same amount of income.
Now, with government costs and overheads rising again, we’ve explored every possible avenue to continue. Unfortunately, the only way to sustain Dre Twt St Clears would be to significantly increase our entry fees, and that’s not what Dre Twt is about. I started this business to make imaginative play and adventure affordable for all.
Alongside all of this, I’ve felt tied down, and I’ve never been one to be tied down. Life is about exploring new ideas, finding joy, and expanding yourself. If something drains you instead of lifting you, it’s time to rethink it. I want to be able to explore more of the world, and I feel that now is that time.
I’m at a point where I’ve lost the joy and love that fuels this project, and when that happens, it’s time to move on.
Dre Twt will continue, on the road! We’re excited to continue to bring our magical, creative worlds directly into schools and communities, keeping the fun alive for all children.
Please rest assured, if you have a party booked with us at St Clears in the next couple of months, they will still go ahead as planned. We also encourage anyone with a voucher to use them, they can still be used at our pop-up events as well.
I also want to say a massive thank you to our landlords, who have been incredibly supportive and understanding throughout this entire journey. Your kindness and flexibility have meant more than you know.
Now more than ever, your independent businesses truly need your support, whether that’s a visit, a booking, or even just sharing their posts on social media. Big brands continue to grow and dominate and small independent businesses are feeling the pressure more than ever. Every bit of support makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported us at Dre Twt St Clears. This isn’t the end, it’s a new chapter, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
PS! Enjoy while you can and get booked in😊
