Carlisle Green Room Club We are an Amateur Theatre Group based in West Walls, Carlisle Welcome to the official page of Carlisle Green Room Club, Carlisle's longest running Theatre.

The Club was started in 1952 by a small group of players who hired a small room in Carlisle to put on their productions. Now, 70 years later, we have our own 142 seat Theatre that puts on 7 productions a year plus outside hirings. We also have a club room which holds our bar for Club events and puts on our 'Theatre Downstairs' productions. We are a registered charity and run entirely by volunteers

. We have 170 + members who get involved in many different ways such as acting, directing, set design, front of house, sound & lighting and much much more. We are always looking out for new members and you'll always be given a warm welcome!

Following the success of Under Milk Wood, the Carlisle Green Room Theatre invites audiences to experience another unforgettable theatrical classic with W***y Russell's much-loved one-woman play, Shirley Valentine.
First premiered in 1986, this Olivier Award-winning comedy-drama has charmed audiences around the world with its warmth, humour and heartfelt exploration of one woman's journey to rediscover herself.
Shirley is an ordinary woman who finds herself wondering what happened to the dreams and possibilities of her younger self. As she prepares dinner and chats to the kitchen wall, her witty observations and candid reflections reveal a life that has become all too familiar. What follows is a funny, moving and ultimately uplifting story about courage, self-discovery and the importance of taking a chance on life.

Taking on the formidable challenge of bringing Shirley to life is Carlisle performer Sarah Waters. A familiar and much-loved presence on the Green Room stage, Sarah's warmth, comic timing and ability to connect with an audience make her the perfect choice to tackle one of theatre's most iconic roles. In a play that relies entirely on the strength of a single performer, audiences can look forward to an evening of laughter, honesty and remarkable storytelling.

Directing the production is Green Room stalwart Carole Ferguson, whose years of dedication to the club and passion for great theatre have made her one of the society's most respected creative voices. Under Carole's guidance, this production promises to capture both the humour and the humanity that have made Shirley Valentine a favourite for generations.

Funny, poignant and deeply relatable, Shirley Valentine reminds us that it is never too late to ask ourselves what we really want from life. Join us this August at West Walls for a truly special evening in the company of one of modern theatre's most enduring characters.
