Shakespeare Switched

Shakespeare Switched Theatre Company, created by a group of artists who have a passion for engaging new audiences in Shakespeare’s work.

Shakespeare Switched is a Community Interest Theatre Company, created by a group of artists who have a passion for engaging new audiences in Shakespeare’s work. This is achieved by presenting Shakespeare’s work through fun and innovative adaptations. Since we began in 2017, we have produced A Classical Cabaret, Lavinia, King Lear in a Cupboard and a series of Switched Songs. It’s vital to us that

we reach out to audiences that aren’t as familiar to the work of Shakespeare and show them that he really is the greatest playwright in the world!

THE FINAL ONE! In true shakespeare switched style, it's a mash up!

conor cupples
cordelia/goneril | king lear | 1.iv/1.iii

'Conor chose this speech to blend together aspects of Shakespeare’s woman and show a contrast between his usually lover type cast and into the villainous'

emily gilson
iago | othello | 2.i

'I reached out to my friends and colleagues for suggestions about who they'd most like to see me tackle, with an emphasis on traditionally male roles, and Iago won, and as I looked for pieces this one resonated with me the most!'

sharon eckman
richard ii | richard ii | 3.ii

'Richard II was one of the first Shakespeare plays I saw, and this speech has stayed with me ever since for its meditation on power and kingship coupled with Richard's intensely personal, wry self-awareness on his own mortality'

georgia andrews
petruchio | the taming of the shrew | 2.i

'I’m keen to see how that audience interaction translates to the digital stage, reimagining the scene in an online dating context (where we’ve all, alas, encountered some Petruchios)'

rex |
jaques | as you like it | 2.vii

'I first read Jaques' speech after binging Ben Crystal's incredible Original Pronunciation seminars. I've been fascinated with OP ever since & I've been trying to develop my grasp on the dialect'

✨ 12 days of shakespeare ✨

elizabeth dennehy |
edmund| king lear | 1.ii

'I love Edmund because he lives completely in the moment with total confidence, never a flicker of doubt. I am always so careful; weighing my options-playing him is fun and freeing'

karim motaz
shylock | the merchant of venice | 3.i

'I chose this monologue because of its relevance in responding to anti-Semitism in today’s political climate and because of its ability to showcase the negative effects racism could have on our society if we allow it to spread. The words of Shylock are the words of a human being who has had enough of the everyday torture he has had to endure and has decided to take revenge upon those who have wronged him, showing no mercy and eventually becoming a part of this vicious cycle of racism, hatred and cruelty against his fellow humans'

✨ 12 days of shakespeare ✨

bethany irving
coriolanus | coriolanus | 4.v

'I chose Coriolanus because his personality is entirely antithetical to my own, and I thought this may be my only chance to play a testosterone fuelled, egotistical warrior - how could I not?'

rob stradling
helena | all's well that ends well | 1.1

✨ 12 days of shakespeare ✨

robbie capaldi
maria | twelth night | 2.iii

'Maria is witty, sharp and cunning. Very much part of the gang with Sirs Toby and Andrew there is a lovely sense that they all play to their strengths and support each other through their foibles'
