It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Kevin Sinnott. One of Wales’ greatest painters and a kind and supportive friend of Canfas.
Our respect and condolences to his family and friends, we will all miss him greatly.

Ivor Davies

We are delighted to have Ivor Davies represented in the gallery during our AUR exhibition.

2002 winner of gold medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod in St Davids, 2004.

When Ivor Davies won the Gold Medal for Fine Art in the Pembrokeshire 2002 National Eisteddfod he decided to put the prize money to use by establising his own award.

Though the original monetary award has long since run out, he continues to fund the Ivor Davies Award. The announcement of the winner at the Eisteddfod is one of the highlights of Y Lle Celf’s activities.

“I established the award to recycle the money that I won in the spirit of the works that I exhibited that year.
This was a way of achieving and promoting one of my aims for the language, culture and politics of Wales in the context of the visual arts.

It is important for us to remember, or not to forget, that these things are alive now – furthering the possibilities of maintaining our national conciousness, language and culture alive is in our hands.”

“Sefydlais y wobr er mwyn ailgylchu’r a***n enillais i yn yr un ysbryd â’r lluniau gafodd eu harddangos y flwyddyn honno,” meddai. “Roedd hwn yn ffordd o gyflawni neu hyrwyddo un o’m uchelgeisiau ar gyfer iaith, diwylliant a gwleidyddiaeth Cymru ym myd y celfyddydau gweledol.
“Mae’n bwysig i ni gofio, neu beidio ag anghofio, bod y pethau hyn yn fyw nawr – mae lledu’r posibiliadau o gadw’r cof, yr iaith a’r diwylliant yn fyw yn ein dwylo ni.”
